Hi,

I got an audiogram yesterday and they said that it had a right tympanometry Peak Pressure of 5daPa and the left Peak Pressure tympanometry was 9 daPa and I have been having brutal tinnitus for the last 4 months on the left side. I have no idea what this means. The tinnitus and hearing loss has ruined my career as my only job is to be an account manager and communicate with people which I know have a hard time hearing and my insurance doesn't cover hearing aids so Im kind of stuck just trying to find something to help me.

The audiologist said he didn't know what it meant and referred me to his ENT but I can't see them for a few weeks so I wanted to see if anyone on the forum might know what the results of the Peak Pressure being different for each ear might mean and if they have anything to do with fluid in my middle ear or my tinnitus? Im desperate for help and the ENT's that I have seen seem like they have no interest in helping anyone but more interested in hearing aid sales which I would be interested in but also need more information and cant afford right now. Hoping time or something cures this vicious condition.

Thanks!

Because there is only a slight difference in peak pressures between the ears, I don't think this is significant. Do you know what the compliance is for each ear (i.e. the height of the tympanogram)? Both pressures are well within the normal range

Hi @dingaling Thank you for the response. I don't what the compliance is for each ear. They keep saying they think its nerve from my ears to the brain which has me worried there wont ever be a treatment for the tinnitus. I feel like I could handle this for a few years but if its forever I don't think I can do it. I have bilateral high frequency hearing loss but tinnitus in only one ear on the left side. I keep hoping maybe the tinnitus since its in only one ear might be curable.

Firstly, do not worry. Hopefully ENT will send you for MRI and tell you the hearing nerve is clear. Hearing aids and/or TRT will help as well as strategies for reducing anxieties about the tinnitus
