inner ear infection
I get a noise in one ear when I have "nerves," probably anxiety. Loud passages in speech trigger it off. It sounds as if someone has dropped a pile of books, making a rrruuummp sort of noise. This consists of a short sequence of individual thumps. I can feel it too. I hate it. Sometimes the rrruuummp sound repeats several times and otherwise it just happens once.

My question is this:- does the word pulsatile refer to any one rrruuummp or only to the series of rrruuummps?

I'd like to know so as to decide whether my tinnitus is pulsative or not.

Could it be TTTS? I have it, I don't hear a sound but get a fluttering sensation in my ear after some sharp noises (sometimes my own voice but rare).

:dunno:

What you're describing doesn't sound like what I have experienced. But I'm guessing there are lots of different variations on it. Sorry not to be more helpful.

Thanks anyway Kathryn. Melike, it sounds like my problem but with no sound. The ENT specialist at Addenbrooke's told me that my trouble could possibly be caused by a small muscle in my ear and that to stop it fluttering they could cut it in half. But because of my age and the medications I take for other problems they would prefer not to operate on me unless the symptoms grow worse. What does TTTS stand for?

I just found out that to be called pulsative the tinnitus has to beat in step with your heart, which mine doesn't.
