Hello guys,

My name is Andrew Thomson. I am a professional musician from Australia.

And I'm here to tell you a few things and lessons I learnt and how to stop your little sound from taking over your life like I did it mine for about a year.

Ok so let's start shall we:

1 — YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Remember this you are not alone in this I can promise you that alot of your friends are guna have it when I started actually searching for people in my friend group that had tinnitus I realised that about 30 % of them do kinda weird but cool

2 — IT'S NOT A MATTER OF GIVING UP OR FIGHTING IT

It's a matter of not giving one single f*ck about it.

It's about when you're lying in bed feeling sorry for yourself you go do something. You gotta get it out of your brain. At first you'll get rid of your negative thoughts for a few minutes.
Then a few hours. Then a day.
Then 2 days. My record is about a week maybe even more.

3 — MUSICIANS AND PARTYGOERS

Don't give up on a passion because of a stupid gay little sound. Get a pair of moulded ear plugs. You can still hear awesome and practicing non stop on your art will help you become better at what you love.

And if you love to party be the smart one in the room with a sneaky set of moulded plugs you can still fist pump and thrust dance if you're into that.

4 — ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

If you're going to go out on the town and decide to get completely shit faced and wake up hung over, remember you're going to have a hard time. My ears will get a little louder for about 4 days and then settle back down. If you're going to get high stay away from hydro, it makes it wors.

5 — YOUR EARS ARE GOING TO SPIKE SOMETIMES

But don't fear, just acknowledge that they are louder. You will say to yourself or a friend my ears are louder today. They will say that's no good and you will continue on not caring :)

6 — GET A TINNITUS BUDDY

Someone you can call that has tinnitus.
My lovely friend Kate has tinnitus. She is also a musician. We catch up, talk for 3 seconds about tinnitus then have a jam or just you know not talk about tinnitus.

7 — DON'T BE A RECLUSE

You have a life - live it!

Get a hobby - go to the beach - go to gym - get into some cool bands.
COME WATCH ME PLAY A GIG IN BRISBANE???? Andrew Thomson music on Facebook

8 — THIS IS IMPORTANT
There are people on here that will help yo.
A few on here I will always remember is @cullenbohannon and @billie48.

I have met record producers, musicians, tradies, surfers, hippies you name it I have met over 30 people with tinnitus. Some didn't even know they had it, some did.

You don't need to suffer.

I suffered for a year. I would never re-live it again.

But I have become strong. I am a better person because of tinnitus. You will get to know yourself so well and then your mind just tunes it out.

So yes my name is Andrew Thomson.

And I don't suffer from tinnitus.

Thank you for a great post. Just reached 3 month's and its been really rough going. To be honest 3 months of no sleep and now massive anxiety - but trying to stay positive. I want to be posting something like this too soon.

Hey antionette
The first few months are the hardest the only thing I can say is get out doors go do stuff that is going to tire you out :)
And don't sit on the forum all day
You gotta get your life back and the only way todo it is get off the computer and go do
Something you enjoy . Also a diet change might be good the healthier you are the better you feel.
Literally
I can sit in a quite room
And be oblivious to it being there because I have put it out of my mind .
I can only hear it now
Cause I'm talking about it and yet I don't give 1 single f&$k . it gets so much easier
So so so so much easier you are not alone remember that . You really arent
I got into old
Man hobbies I literally walk the bush with a metal detector looking for gold I'm 26 lol get a hobby :) or if your in central Queensland come along

Thank you for your reply. I guess if you can sort your sleep out that's key - its the thing I am finding so difficult - Hopefully I will get there soon. Enjoy your new hobby but can't join you from London!!!

Actually this might sound weird but somtimes I just listen to it and it puts me to sleep

I can relate to this. For some reason nowadays when it comes to sleeping, I don't like to have any noise in the room. Just hearing the tinnitus seems to get me off to sleep quicker. I guess my brain is just bored of hearing it all this time
