It's Sad How Faulty Awareness Is

I think that 'awareness' should be directed towards healthcare professionals - doctors and hospitals. There's so many studies where results are encouraging where 18%, 32%, 53% have seen improvement. We has posted many of these studies. My neuro is the only doctor that I know who uses free time to read studies. He often would like a team effort made for T patients for treatment and education per some studies, but he can't doctors willing to participate.

This is where all the psycho/physiology comes in. The awareness from a medical point of view should cover the outward, cascading effects on a productive life hit with severe tinnitus, if it can't address the underlying physiology itself. Pop stars can stuff Euros in their ears if they want, but the average worker trying to get their family going, build a career, complete studies etc suddenly gets slammed, and all the efforts of life-building come apart, with all the potential costs to society of health care, welfare, loss of earning potential (less tax paid?), loss of and injury to family life etc right up to and including self-harming behaviours. The old TRT/CBT model that Michael Leigh outlines in his early days of care is actually an early example of a systematic attempt to address this psycho-physiological side of the equation holistically, all of which now seems to be largely lost. Whether it died on the altar of funding cuts or research-casting-doubts I don't know (usually gaming the research interpretations makes good cover for the politics of managing funding cuts), but I do know we know that while we won't get a tinnitus cure, there could still be stronger efforts towards understanding, and mitigating the life-changing effects of tinnitus and all that it brings. Most efforts along these lines as it stands now seem to flounder in a sea of mistrust and cynicism. We've heard it all before, and they think surely it can't be that bad. I'd personally be more open to the psychology/TRT side of things now than I was four years ago (were I to do it all again, which I sort of am). I probably would have been a little less maladaptive in my reactions than I ended up being which may have made life easier, who knows?. Doesn't really matter now.
