Cause of Tinnitus
Virus/ no clue
Funny story. My friend James got an ear infection/ virus in January (a month before my tinnitus began from an infection).

He said he had profound hearing loss from fluid build up and ringing in both ears from hell!! He said he could hear all over head sounds, buzzing, static, pure tones like high pitched eeeee, and the like.

He told me he believed his ear drums were healing from the cold he had and the healing process was causing all of the sounds.

He said he was so scared because he is a musician and couldn't imagine this being a permanent thing. He was also worried his years of DJing would inhibit his recovery!

He said he went through three months of hell. He said some days it would seem like it was getting better then a whole week of blaring ringing would come on, then subside. Kind of up and down.

Well I talked to him yesterday he said the tinnitus is 100% gone!! He hears nothing and it took him a full 3 months to recover in both ears!

That's amazing! I wish I was that lucky
I pray we can all be as lucky as James!

I'm 5 months in now and wish it would go away, I thought it was going away 2 weeks ago because I barely noticed it for a week and a half but as soon as my allergies started it seems to have picked back up so my anger is back as well :( also I am tapering off of benzos given for anxiety so I'm sure that is making it intense as well

@Dginobile take all the good days and realize soon there will be more good days than bad days. I understand how soul crushing it is to think it's almost gone then BAM! But it's a good sign! One week can turn into two and two to four and a month to a year! It's a slow process for sure but you're not alone. Much love for you

thank you so much for this story!! i hope and pray that we all get that lucky too :)
how old is he? it is really great that he made a full recovery...
i'm almost 3 months in, got it after beeing sick and it is getting better gradually, it is barely audiable right now steady for 10 days or so... it was 3 or maybe even 4/10 at the beginning, now it is 0-1 on one ear and 1-2 the worse ear where the infection was and the fluid for 3 weeks...
did your friend get any meds, underwent any therapies?
i decided to just wait and see...i thought about other treatments but decided that i do not want to go from doc to doc..i got prednisone and it helped and now i use ginko, tumeric, l arginine, opc, b vitamins and magnesium, it helps or maybe time alone helps. i spend lots of time in silence and protect my ears. i raed one of your posts that swimming pool caused a spike- i use special earplugs for swimming, i like them so that water stays out and it is not that loud in the pool. i try to go at times when it is quieter (lunch time or late evenings). these plugs do not block that much, youll be able to comunicate with your daughter but still protect a bit...or normal silicone ones can help as well..
once again, thank you for the story! hope we all get well, i think that ears really need more time to heal than throat or sinuses (but these can be tricky too) etc..

@lena_ hey there! James is in his forties, he might even be fifty. Both his ears were ringing so loud he said he couldn't hear over it and now he says it's all gone...

Yeah I pray I hear silence again one day. I had a great week or two where I thought for sure it was going away but ever since I went to the pool it's like I got set back a month! I'm so depressed about it
