So after seeing 3 ENTs, a pain specialist, a neurologist, a general practitioner, and several nurse practitioners - the jaw/dentist specialist diagnosed me with TMD or TMJ as everyone calls it. I have all the symptoms and I grind like crazy. Jaw clicking, headaches and of course the hell that is tinnitus/hyperacusis. Now since I've started using the incredibly expensive daytime/night guard it has gotten worse dramatically which makes it seem like she is right and I do indeed have tinnitus and hyperacusis related to TMD.

Anyone here have experience with these symptoms and gotten better after TMJ treatment? I'd like to know there is hope out there. It's hard to have any sounds around me at all and I do audio work for a living. Life is very hard right now.

Unfortunately TMJ treatments don't seem to do much for most people. I'm sorry not to be able to give you more hope.

How much did you pay for the night guard?

Actually, I have talked to numerous people who have been helped by wearing a mouth guard and doing exercises.

Excellent news. I have had the mouth guard for about 4 months and I am worse. I clearly have TMJ because my mouth is having a hard time opening and my tinnitus/hyperacusis/reactive tinnitus is all bad when my mouth hurts. I am trying a Botox treatment this coming Monday, fingers crossed.
