Jazzer’s Videos

Oh, a drum, thanks for clearing that up for me, Dave. I don't know how you managed to play with cracked ribs. A few years ago I cracked a couple of ribs and the pain was almost more than I could stand, even taking a deep breath was extremely painful. "The show must go on," as they say.

It was agony if I'm honest.
After this concert we drove to Berlin for another two concerts.
Boy - was I glad to get home.

As you know, I've been a trombonist for 55 years.
I did occasionally pick up a standard shepherd's crook cornet when the inspiration grabbed me.
Here I am playing a cornet duel with the great Benny Cohen, on Hoagy Carmichael's beautiful melody "Stardust."

For the musicians out there:
Our sound and styles are quite different.
I take the first 8 bars of the verse,
I take the first 16 bars of the chorus.
I take the first solo.
Hope you like it.

PS - now that Tinnitus has forced me into obscurity, as the jazz world marches on without me, I feel a bit like the poor guy in Maynard Dixon's wonderful painting "Forgotten Man."

Pretty much the same, up days and down days tbh.... the joys of Tinntius.
The nice weather helps with my moods which is good, well apart from being woken up at 5.20 by some over enthusiastic birds having a good ole talk haha

@Jazzer,
You play brilliantly and could listen to you for hours, thank you for sharing your music with us and so talented.

The finest jazz trombone feature I have ever heard.
"I Cover the Waterfront."

@Jazzer,
fantastic Dave your just amazing .

Hi Glynis
I must share a little story here with you.

As you notice, I am smiling and the audience are laughing their heads off.

I had just announced my feature, a nice old tune called "Old Fashioned Love.
One bright spark in the front row shouted out,
"Dave - just what is old fashioned love - cos I'm not quite sure?"
(Hoping to embarrass me.)

So I looked st his misus and said,
"Well apparently there are hundreds of ways of making love - did you know that misus?"

She went red and shook her head.

I said "Well I've led a very sheltered life, but apparently you can do it this way, and that way, and the other way.

Well this is 'Old Fashioned Love'
"Missionary Position"
"Face to Face!"

Hi folks - one or two friends have asked if I can put a few video clips up, so even though I'm a bit embarrassed about it (I thought they'd never ask) here goes. (@Elfin )

I played jazz trombone in New Orleans, Dixieland and Swing styles.
Please bear in mind that these are clips that are mostly recorded by people in the audience, so while most are quite well done, they may not be professional videos.

1. Old Rockin' Chair.

2.When You Wish Upon a Star. (Baritone Horn & Slide Trombone,)

3.Savoy Blues. (On a plastic child's trombone.)

4.The Old Rugged Cross.

5.C Jam Blues.

6.I Cover the Waterfront. (Valve & Slide Trombones)

I love this version of When You Wish Upon a Star. I listen to it more often than I care to admit! lol

Please post more videos if you got them @Jazzer !

This thread has inspired me this morning! If you don't mind Jazzer, I would love to post in this thread some of my favorite Jazz songs as well.

But if you want to keep it all about you ;), I understand too!

I am just pleased that you appreciate my take on it Jack.
I've always loved this number - both the melody, and the lyrics.
It was a feature number for me for some years, with a jazz show that went right around the U.K. "Basin Street to Broadway."
The ideas and phrases just came to me naturally.
Now, of course, I have lost my career and my passion has been stilled.
I still love the music of course, and I still love listening to the things I achieved.
If only the words could come true eh bud?
Dave x

Be my guest Jack.
Go ahead mate x

I used to be a pretty fair musician Jack,
until one inconsiderate bastard blasted off in my face, and gave me this.

Then I joined Tinnitus Talk, and became a right nuisance to anybody who chose to misrepresent this 'sack of shit'......I just like the truth. xx

Agree to disagree.

Did Beethoven stop being a musician because he went deaf and couldn't hear the notes? He couldn't conduct or play as well as he used to, but he could still write some of the greatest music known to man. Does he not qualify as a musician even though he was hindered in his ability to play and perform?

We are all still musicians and artists whether or not we can express ourselves in our chosen method of expression.

I believe you will play again one day Jazzer, whether on the horn or in another form of expression.
