Joe Perry and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith Using Earplugs in 1990

I came across this video of Aerosmith and Jimmy Page talking before a show, and I found it interesting because at one point Joe Perry realises he's got earplugs in. It was recorded in 1990, a time where you don't often see rockstars protecting their hearing, which is why I was surprised.

If you look closely, you'll notice that shortly after Joe mentions it, you see Steven Tyler remove his earplugs also.

Looks like it could be that putty type stuff that swimmers use. I don't think he's using standard foam plugs, but I may be wrong.

That's interesting. He's the only one I can see using hearing protection, and that's from the '80s. It really was rare to see musicians protecting their ears in those earlier eras. Today, it's a different story, as hearing protection is taken much more seriously.
