Just Had Microsuction Done, for Around 3 Seconds (Told Them to Stop) — Slight Ringing Now?

Blah blah blah, started hearing a noise in my unaffected ear about a week ago ENT appointment finally came up, and he syringed it with something then started sucking, and it was INSANELY loud, I told him to stop after 3 seconds. Thing is, now i hear kind of an "echo ring" and a ringing when I hear noises from that ear, did I just get hearing loss and tinnitus in my unaffected ear because of this shit?


I should add, if I plug the ear, the ringing I get from other sounds stops completely, and the noise i was starting to get in that ear before is gone..



Also, is there a safe way to remove hardened wax without suction? could using ear drops for a week maybe get rid of it?

I have had microsuction twice with no problems. You should apply olive oil eardrops to the ears 3 times a day for 10 days before the proceedure to soften the earwax. If olive oil isn't used for 10 days before microsuction, there is a risk of making the tinnitus worse. I have also had ear irrigation twice and used olive oil as above and had no problems.

well it's not worse it's just it kind of is sensitive to sound atm, the ear he did it in, this ear doesn't have tinnitus but now it has a ring to external noises, if plugged it goes away. Did those 3 seconds really just fuck my good ear? Or will this one be fixed?

Nope, no olive oil, he did do some sort of irrigation with some liquid before though.

Listen, I have just told you and believe me I know what I'm talking about having had tinnitus for 20 years and being treated by highly skilled ENT doctors. Microscution is the best method of removing earwax especially if a person has tinnitus. However, if the doctor that is doing the microscution isn't skilled enough then they can make tinnitus worse or cause it. I have also had syringing, they now call it ear irrigation which is different from syringing and I had no problems. Again, you should still use olive oil 3x a day for 10 day before microscution or ear irrigation.

Ear syrining is an old method of removing earwax. Water is sprayed into the ear under pressure. This can make tinnitus worse or even cause it. The modern method of removing earwax is to go to a GP surgery and have ear irrigation to remove earwax. It is much safer than syringing. If a person has tinnitus or there is a build up of earwax which is difficult to remove using ear irrigation. A visit to a hospital to have microsuction is usually recomended. I would not advise anyone to go to a private clinic for microsuction, as sometimes the person doing the proceedure might not be skilled enough. Better to get an ENT doctor to do the microsuction at a hospital.

@grotulon @Michael Leigh my SEVERE tinnitus, hyperacusis and hearing loss was caused by an ENT doing microsuction!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to add that I had been putting in ear drops for almost 2 weeks prior to the procedure that has severely damaged my hearing. The suction was very loud and squealy! I would not recommend having this treatment unless you know of a VERY experienced and careful ENT. For me, having microsuction done to remove a bit of cerumen in my ears was the WORST decision I have ever made!

I have quite severe tinnitus and was also unsure whether to have microsuction. However, my ENT doctor is an Audiovestibular physcian and I had every confidence in her. She has microsuctioned my ears twice and I had no problems. Another ENT doctor microsuctioned my ears and there were no problems.

I fully agree with you. Every medical procedure carries a risk and there is no way you could have known what would have happened. Even though the person that treated you was supposed to be qualified, and rightly should have shown due care and attention, in real life things don't always workout that way.

@Janb I am also a victim of this barbaric and extremely dangerous procedure. I have hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis and constant nerve pain after having had microsuction by an ENT just over 3 years ago. Like you, my life is unrecognisable because of this. I tried to complain but I've been branded as "psychologically unstable" by the ENT who did this to me. He accepts no responsibility for his error, and has been backed by his peers when I made a written complaint. Prior to the microsuction I had NEVER had hearing problems, tinnitus, hyperacusis etc. I was not warned of possible complications following this procedure and when I challenged the ENT who did this he claimed that microsuction couldn't possibly cause any of my symptoms. I AM LIVID!!!!!! Unfortunately I would need A LOT of money to take this complaint to court and it seems that Drs are a law unto themselves... @Vicki14 has also been a victim of this dreadful procedure. I would be very interested in helping with any collective movement regarding medical negligence and microsuction.

@Blue28 -- I'm really sorry to hear about what a catastrophic experience microsuction was for you. -- I agree with you that it's absolutely barbaric and extremely dangerous, and I would encourage you to look into taking this to court. If you could convince a legal team your case has merit, they might take it on a contingency basis. Somehow this madness has to stop. -- A similar case can be made for the ridiculous use of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (often made into eardrops), which can cause tinnitus and so much more, leaving people cripples for the rest of their lives, sometimes from taking just a single dose.

Thank you @Lane for your kind words. I contacted a lawyer last year and was told that I would need solid evidence (a hearing test just before/after the procedure... Like who thinks of doing this/expects to have their hearing damaged to this extent from wax removal...) blah blah blah and that it wouldn't be cheap to pursue this. I live in France and I have a feeling that Drs are highly protected here. I feel absolutely sick and cheated at how this ENT procedure has ruined my life, my hearing and my peace. I'm disgusted that doctors get away with this. I feel so angry at the injustice of it all. I have a small daughter and have missed out on so much during her early years because of the damage caused by a careless ENT, it all makes me so sad.

I agree @Vicki14 about the incompetence of certain so called health 'professionals', but I see so many people complaining of ringing in ears etc after having had microsuction done that I really think there's a huge risk element to this procedure regardless. Unfortunately we had a risky procedure done badly which made things worse! It's high time that the medical profession realise just how dangerous microsuction is!!!

Plus developed tinnitus and hyperacusis.

Should be outlawed.
