Cause of Tinnitus
One Movie That Was Too Loud
Hello! I haven't actually signed up until now, and I figured I should introduce myself. I'm 16. My tinnitus is rounding its first anniversary (unfortunately). I went to the doctors when I first got it and they did hearing tests, but then they went and told me the ear with tinnitus had better hearing than the ear without. Baffling.

I don't really know the root cause of my tinnitus, but I'm suspecting it was because we watched a movie in the classroom with the doors closed and the volume on too high. Halfway through, my right ear got sensitive but I didn't think too much about it but look where that has gotten me lol.

I can't really hear the ringing when there're people talking or there's noise in the background, so I guess that's a plus. At the very least, I'll be able to accept this god forbidden ringing for the rest of my life.

The only good thing that has come out of this tinnitus situation is that I've learned to protect my ears whenever I go to movies or concerts. I've never noticed just how loud those events were, but I wear earplugs when I need them now. There's not really a point to this point I don't think, because I'm not looking for any questions to be answered, but I see everyone help each other out so I just thought I'd post something too.

Thanks for reading!

You're doing the right thing so far, well done... you're so young so I think it will get better. If you're going to concerts... I would suggest wearing ear plugs with attenuation (filters)... or better still custom moulded plugs :)

Yea I would avoid concerts altogether. If a movie in a classroom upset your ears I wouldn't even chance it. Good that you are up on awareness, though. I have always had sensitive ears and I just ignored the signs like a moron. 26 now with mangled, but "normal" hearing thresholds.

Got it, will look into that, thank you! I've ended up avoiding all concerts and most movies in the cinema altogether lol

Unfortunately, I can't avoid classroom movies since I'm still in school, but I try to tell the teacher to lower the volume. There's really no point playing the movie on 80 when everyone can hear perfectly at 20 ><
