Cause of Tinnitus
Some hearing loss more likely due to aging
Has anyone heard that problems with your kidneys can cause hearing loss and/or tinnitus? A friend of mine sent me some information from a Chinese medicine book stating this. I haven't heard any scientific evidence that this is the case.

Thanks for the information :)

I know one girl that got tinnitus and about a year or two later found out that she had kidney stones. When her kidney stones were removed, her tinnitus went away. If it was because of her kidney stones, anesthesia or whatever is kinda impossible to tell though.. :)

I havent been able to find much scientific evidence between those two as well, but I havent looked too hard either :p

Interesting , I went to a chinese herbalist, I went through a herb
tonic , cost about $300 but it did not help, still have tinnitus , but he told me in could my kidneys and or prostate. I have not went to check on both my kidneys or prostate. But I met a Women who works at whole foods and she had Tinnitus and the Chinese Herbalist cured her and it was her kidneys that were the problem.
call me , it is easier 416 729 3148 Lou

Yes... as item #50 on the list of possible causes in descreasing order of likelihood.

If you want to pursue that line of thought, see your GP: blood work + ultrasound scan, or whatever he/she recommends; but, I doubt you will find the answer there. Nor the cure...

Hi Tok, I did not realize it until I read your post. My T and stage 3 kidney disease started at about the same time. Very interesting. I had open heart surgery, a four way bypass, two months later I had T. Then the Dr. ran blood tests and told me about the stage 3 kidney disease. I keep all my medical records, so I looked back to before the open heart and my blood test showed normal kidney function and no T. Be sure to post anything else you find regarding this. I don't think there is anything that can be done, but interesting nonetheless.

Back when I was all but bed-ridden due to my severe intrusive tinnitus, I went to an acupuncture specialist who told me that the reason my ears were ringing was because of an imbalance between my liver and my kidneys that he proposed to address by sticking a series of needles into my legs and feet.

I was so desperate for relief that I actually believed him!

Ridiculous.

Dr. Nagler,

Whether it is due to kidneys/liver aside, cloudn't the stimulation of the nervious system from the needles to the nervous system help if used at correctly? I actullay went to an accupuncturist and she put the needles around the ear, face, wrists, and ankles. I did find I got some kind of temporary relief.

Tony, over time I have learned never to doubt or question anybody's experience where tinnitus is concerned. All I can tell you regarding acupuncture is that it has been studied and studied and studied in the tinnitus literature - and to the best of my knowledge it has never been found to be more effective than placebo.

I actualy went to a accupuncture specialist and he said the exact same thing to me, an imbalance between my liver and kidneys.

He said that stress was the biggest factor for me in getting T, I told him I had hearing damage and the T gave me stress, not the stress giving me T, but he did not believe me and prescribed me some Chinese herbs that would magically make my T go away, but only after much treatments, oh at full cost off course.

After a couple of sessions I thanked him for his "services" and never went back.I rather spend my money on something usefull.

I lost a kidney in an accident 15 years ago but got T 11 monthes ago so I really dont see any correlation. Did the acupuncture route found it very relaxing but no positive effect on my T.
