Kids

If my parents and me have really severe T, would you still decide to have kids on your own?

Supposed you have severe Tinnitus in young age and one of your parents has it as well (since young age).

Would you dare to get kids?
Is it fair to take the risk?

As tinnitus as a list of causes .
The chance I think would be the same for everyone getting it.
You have a better understanding of getting them protect their ears from a young age....lots of love glynis

I don't want kids and neither does my boyfriend. We might changed our mind once we get closer to 30 or over. But yeah, I have thought about how my T would change (or not) with a kid crying and screaming. Having earplugs each time you pick them up or try to comfort them? It seems tough with a baby that do not speak or understand you..

I'm just doing the math.
Since probability for severe T is very low in young age (neither me or my parents were abusing their ears as far as I know), what are the odds that my mom and me both have it coincidentally?

A genetic reason in our family to be prone to T is imho very likely.

After 4 month with big T I'm not sure if I want to give this burden to my kids.
I think I would blame myself if my kids get it as well and I knew before.

I'm terrified that my kids get tinnitus.

All I can do is advise them about loud noise and what jobs are more likely to lead to tinnitus, and the same goes for being careful with meds and to never take a Dr's word on anything.

But my wife is a lot less cautious and says that I am fear mongering. I don't think so.

I understand the reasoning but in 20 years I think we will have treatments.
Also, there are kids from perfectly healthy parents who get terrible diseases or even die. And there are kids with ill parents who are perfectly healthy.
I worry more about what type of society and climate we will leave behind, we are destroying this planet.
Finally, it might depend also on your outlook on life in general, whether you are religious or not and what you believe.
In general I sympathize with the idea that we wish to spare our kids our torments, but there is no guarantee in life. Life is neither fair nor safe
