Imagine if we could induce this wretched condition in some of the world's wealthiest people. We would triple the current investment, gain media coverage and push it up the agenda of researchers and universities. Perhaps a noise bomb or an ototoxic medication in the individuals water supply. It's a a bit sadistic but they would find a cure in no time. Imagine Bill Gates fixing the problem pretty quick.

I'm pretty sure the likes of David Letterman, William Shatner and that bloke who was in the Black Eyed Peas already qualify as some of the world's wealthiest citizens.

Good point. Just the other day I was thinking David Letterman and his meagre $US400 million net worth would be lucky to even afford a latte at my local Starbucks...
Coffee? I thought we were talking enough bank to cure a illness like tinnitus and "fixing the problem prettty quick" 400 mill ain't doing shit for letterman and his T. He's stuck with it just like the rest of us. Again, he has nothing compared to the wealthiest in the world. Maybe Bill gates and his 50 bill could put a dent in the problem, I don't know.

You would actually do that to another person?

That is rather messed up.
I would never wish T on anyone, I don't feel like that just because I suffer from it, I'd want someone else to have it too. You wish T on them just because they are rich?
Bill Gates and his wife do a lot in regards of charity, I believe they have given away $27 Billion USD to charity. So yeah, just saying.
Also, T is not that easy to cure. It is not just that people are sitting on their asses and just rolling thumbs really. I do agree that this condition would need more awareness and more money to fund even better and quicker research but I also see the complexity of how to find a "miracle cure that would work on everyone". Having noise induced T is probably different from medical T, or sudden hearing loss T, and vice versa. Even if we induced T on wealthy people, it would still take years before any treatment or cure would reach the public.

I honestly hope that statement was rather just a lash out of frustration than something you actually wish for on a daily basis.

Wow people. If you think this is sick don't read the news or pick up any history books, your heads will explode! Haha

There are millions slaughtered in ridiculous wars based on greed just so you can live in your first world country and be comfortable. And this stuff actually happens!!! I hope you loose your minds about issues that actually matter, not some stupid post on a tinnitus forum. Try and get a grip on reality if you can.

I hope you're joking.
It is a sick world out there and humans have been and will be a disgusting race that will start wars for nothing, exploit animals and the Earth for their enjoyment, however that does not mean we need to act like that just because "everyone else have".

OP wanted to induce T in wealthy people ONLY based on the fact that they have money. That is incredible naive to believe that just because wealthy people would have T, that would equal treatment and cure in no time.

There are actually more critical issues out there, and I can understand why Bill Gates for example, chooses to donate his money to feed and provide basic health care for the poorest. A cure for T would be nice but at least we have a home, food and the access to health care, education and be able to live free.

You don't need to lash out on us, does it make you feel better? The fact remains that OP's wish is still f*cked up.

I couldnt agree more with @Fangen.
even the intention only is sick.
he wants his wish to become reality, so that is already enough.

Well let's inflict genocide, rape, aids and anything else on the rich then. We can just solve everyone's problems by making it theirs too, right?

What's worst in all this is that the name mentioned is Bill Gates, one of the few extremely rich that actually does so much good with his money.

I agree, it's stupid to wish this on anyone. Secondly, you completely miss the important fact that not all people with tinnitus are "sufferers". The vast majority are anything but suffering; they just continue with their lives. In no way would it mean they'd start throwing money into tinnitus research. There are varying degrees of effect tinnitus can have in a person from nothing at all to suicidal. The loudness of a persons T can factor into this but in a lot of cases it's a lot to do with the personality as well; and a combination of both.

Some people's lives can come to a complete standstill - complete devastation - and others just see it as an annoyance, and continue on with their life relatively unaffected.

Everyones tinnitus is a personal experience that only they can understand. Most celebrities are content with their tinnitus, which could be down to the fact that they stay busy and have A LOT of distractions. If you are genuinely happy I believe it's much harder to be deeply affected by it.

"Groundhog Day" on a tinnitus forum:
  • ENTs are useless...
  • Is LLLT a scam?
  • What if the world's richest man had tinnitus?
  • What if the president of the United States had tinnitus?
  • Should I risk going to a concert?
  • When will there be a cure?

ENTs are useless...
99% are
Is LLLT a scam?
Yes
What if the world's richest man had tinnitus?
Nothing unless he was one in 200 who has it bad
What if the president of the United States had tinnitus?
Nothing unless he was one in 200 who has it bad (I know I asked this and I now think this...)
Should I risk going to a concert?
It's always a risk even with plugs but life is meant to be lived
When will there be a cure?
Not in our life time

Anyone know Bill Gates address? Anyone? :)

Apparently, it isn't such a secret - these guys found it...

I'll let someone else deal with that plumbing issue (= water contamination) mentioned by the thread starter.

Sorry I agree with the poster, not aimed so much at the rich but at those who could try harder.
Imagine if the Obama, Cameron, or maybe our queen had the sort of T we have, loud, intrusive, destructive, depressive, exhausting and H too. Then maybe just maybe they would think, this is dreadful must try and fix this.
If all our worlds leaders had H and could longer cope in rooms full of yelling people then maybe they would care, because right now I still see nothing at all for T and H.

Agreed! I really like him, he is humble and actually plan to do a lot with the fortune he has earned. It's great to see the work he and his wife does :)

Sure, maybe doctors and researchers must be better informed and aware of this condition. But there are diseases that are killing millions, yet we don't see any cure for that (HIV, AIDS primarily). What is more acute to cure right now? Surely the ones that are killing people every day right? It sucks to have T, but it does not kill you. It doesn't make you physically worse day by day until you die a horrible, prolonged death. In that sense, yes the attention are going somewhere else. I don't think that wealthy, or influential people will affect the road to a cure, but unfortunately when the society realizes what a big issue it is when large population of the new generation are affected by T.
It really depends on what perspective you're looking from. I want a cure and a treatment for T and H, at the same time I can also understand why it hasn't been done. And I also see that most ENT and doctors are not well educated either. There is a lot of work to do to raise awareness, the questions is where we should start.

that thinking is just so absoluetly wrong and disgusting! shame on you. seems like no one has ever taught you morals.
everyone who thinks that this is right should read Kant and learn ethics and morals.

Ronald Reagan had tinnitus and it helped no one. There are too many destructive illnesses in the world to solve them all, and there are conditions out there that most of us will have never heard of; what about those as well?

The world can be an awful place but we can't solve everything. It's just implausible.

Tinnitus is also a problem that's difficult to solve because of the multifaceted pathologies and various causes. Even with more money and acknowledgement, it guarantees nothing.

We are just projecting our problem on this forum because we are the sufferers. If any one of us had Freidreich's Ataxia for example, we would be on those forums demanding the same thing. We have to have an element of acceptance, without the malice in us to wish others suffered as we do.

Actually, there are more out there than you might think, and, who either through their influence or wealth, would be in a position to make a difference in some way - examples:
So, the next question is: with these people in influential positions, why is not more happening. Well, that is something I have been asking myself also for a long while in my role as an advocate. And the best answer I have on that is that it comes down to two factors:
  • Not feeling the necessary drive that fuels a so-called "affliction with the world" (see CNN footage below).
  • Not having true self-leadership (= questioning the status quo).
An affliction with the world:

So why do things not get better: well, suppose you were Jack Straw and developed tinnitus, you would probably have your personal assistant call the best doctor in the country to find out what can be done. And what would the best doctor in the country do for a condition such as tinnitus? Well, that person - that doctor - would probably tell Mr. Straw that: "Sorry, but there isn't really anything I can do for you."

If you are at-the-edge-of-science, however, what would you do? Well, you would explore the options - and not accept the status quo. For instance, just this morning, I learnt that my contact from a stem cell hospital and who has previously worked for Beike Biotechnologies for a period of five years, has treated 220 patients for hearing loss with stem cells. But of course, no one - incl. your "best doctor in the country" - would know about that. And that makes all the difference.

I agree, I think what I was trying to say is if a massive number of influential people had H, because that is what really makes life in this world hard, and they suddenly could no longer bear a debate in parliament, flights around the world, or a banquet they HAD to attend. maybe they would get their heads together and try harder, after all its not just a cure we need now, we need much much better care too.

It's going to take more than money,i think the cause of Tinnitus and the subjective nature of it
are very treatable but only in a preventive matter. There's many reasons why someone develops T.

Ethics? Morals? That's an interesting observation given that I do believe you mentioned @jdjd09 shouldn't be honest about his AM-101 trial:
@jdjd09 that was a bad idea. Dont be honest in that case. Not smart sorry. Your options? You cannot get back obviously. Especially someone like you with severe Tinnitus, I thought you would use the chance of AM 101.

I also found this little gem of yours... :)
yup. the USA sucks. worst 1st world country to live in. disfunctional like you said. here in Germany the state cares for us.
americans are so fucking stupid. obama could have helped you but no....no...you rather keep ur guns and watch children killing each other.
