Lexapro (Escitalopram)? Please Share Your Experience

I forgot about this thread. Thanks for the feedback. How does one know if one is on the right dose? I really want to start taking it, but I am nevertheless apprehensive about ototoxicity. But it's not like ototoxicity as it might exist in drugs like that is some kind of death sentence for getting T or even exacerbating it, else half the population would have it, and most T sufferers would be doing worse because half of them are on various possibly ototoxic medications because of getting T in the first place. And it seems like a lot of folks around here swear by the positive/theraputic effects of certain drugs like Lexapro.

I'm giving it another week, and then I believe I'm going to start. Thanks again for the replies.

Take it, lexapro is really good. Ive said on here before that it is one of the ad that has the least side effects. The only thing thats most likely gonna happen to you is your gonna loose your sex drive for a few months but it will go back. If you dont like hoe you feel on it then go off, any change in t if any at all would only be temporary most likely.

Well that's what's got me most concerned. Maybe I'll wait for a couple months. I've got two tough months ahead of me, and that last thing I'd want is for the ringing to get louder. After that, I'll be good for whatever might happen, though of course I hope nothing bad happens. I'm doing okay as it is. Though of course it would great to feel better.

Is it likely to get louder at least temporarily? That's the sticking point for me, at least at this exact juncture. I suppose there's only one way to find out. So I'm definitely torn whether I should start taking or not. And I don't want to piss my doctor off by ignoring her instructions.

Im no doctor by any means, but i would say that any changes if any which you probably wont have would only be temp. Its like with anything theres always that chance but probably wont happen. Were you prescribed an anti anxiety drug along with it?

Well, I told my doctor about my newfound ringing in the ear, along with a different more stressful medical issue I'm struggling with, and she prescribed lexapro. But the audiologist was firm against any sort of medication, and the possibility of ototoxicity. Although she was from China with a very thick accent, and to be honest I couldn't really understand her that well. That whole audiologist visit was basically a waste of time. Just took a hearing test, which came back largely normal, and no word whatsoever about my eustachian tubes which I was thinking might possibly be an issue, though probably not, and I couldn't really understand anything much she was saying about anything when I spoke with her at the end.

The upshot being I've got my lexapro, I'm not sure if I should take it though I think I want to, and I've got a gold-star rated tinnitus specialist who was no help at all trying to steer me clear. This kind of sucks.

Many people have gotten better with the help of meds. What I have read ant depressants can cause a temp spike it settles. If you need them I would take them. I took xanax for a long time everyday and still do from time to time. It was extremely helpful for me. But I am no doctor though

You should take klonopin with it to ease your anxiety and worries and just let the lexapro run its course.. I think youl benefit from it greatly! :)

Anyone having experience with lexapro (escitolopram) ? I am diagnosed with major depression and have been prescribed lexapro 5 mg for about 3 months . what side effects can I expect after taking it ? I have just taken my first dose of it today morning. Will it affect my T ? Or any other side effects(sexual side effects of SSRI?) ? Is the benefit permanent? Many thanks for reading

Asian ... I've been on Lexapro for years . It's a good medication. You are on a low dose and probably won't have many side effects... Don't over think it.
It doesn't affect my T as I went off it an there was no change.

Lexapro is amazing.. Saved me from taking benzos daily. When this kicked in i dropped the benzos daily and now use when needed. Im on 10 mg and wouldnt think twice bout goin to 15 or 20 mg in the future. My doc says lexapro is a pretty "safe" drug. Only side effect i had was i lost some sexual stuf for a few monthes but thats it. Been on it for 3 years.

Thank you very much for the responses . I took my first dose today and feeling extremely nauseous. It has made my brain completely numb and I feel no emotion (just after the first dose!!). I feel no anger no love just numb and quiet . my family is freaked out and told me to stop taking it . my T is unusually loud as well. I guess its not for me :(

I think is subjective. I was on Cipralex (escitalopram) first week 5mg and then 10mg. Extreme anxiety,nausea,headache. After 3 month was switchet on Zoloft (sertraline) but unuseful for anxiety and T. Switched on Efexor (SNRI) but stopped due to stomach pain. Too much side effect. I prefer other medications. Nausea is a comm side effect of all SSRI drugs. Be patient!
Hope it will work for you
Best wishes

Experienced tinnitus 2001 after working in noisy conditions. ENT
doctors are no help. Was referred to neurologist who treated with massive doses of steroids. After no help after 2 yrs , sought second opinion. This neurologist gave me script fot Lexapro.
It seemed to decrease the noise. Never run out or try to cold turkey to stop once you start it. Terrible panic attacks will result, I found out. So after 10 years of taking it, I weaned myself off
after 3 weeks. Noise seems the same.
Google the internet and everyone complains taking Lexapro started their Tinnitus. Not true. I had it for 2 years
before Lexapro. It will help, I don't
know how. Just remember to wean yourself off slowly, 1/2 pill for week,
1/4 pill for week and stop. Remember it drove Van Gogh crazy!

My dosage of Lexapro is 20 mg. Being older 60+, have arthritis of knees and joints.Three months ago I grew tired of taking Lexapro and weaned myself off.
I noticed no increase in tinnitus but became aware of arthritic pain in knees and joints that I had not felt before. So I began taking Lexapro again. My arthritic pain disappeared within 2 weeks and I became less aware of the tinnitus. After questioning my psychiatrist he said
Lexapro (SSRI) "masked" minor pains as well as making tinnitus more tolerable, a drug with other purposes
than just antidepressant. Now if I could find a cure for my leukemia and prostate cancer, well the tinnitus problem kinda got pushed to background! It does work performing "masking" effects we are not aware of!

SSRIs have not worked for me. I wish I could go back without taking Sertraline and Lexepro with side of Cipro.
There drugs did not work for me they caused me a lot of misery.

Hi friends;

i need some help;

few days ago i got a prescription of Cipralex (escitalopram). 5mg at morning (start dosage) to increse after a week to 10mg. It has been prescibed for tinnitus. Now what is happened last week when i started;

On thursday i took my 5mg and went to work... meanwhile i was working i started to feel unwell with sweating nausea and headache but i knew that it was normal because on the leaflet, side effects invoice, those were present... so ok... go on... the end of the day was been a nightmare.

Friday the same with total inability to work... i told this to my ent and he sayd that it was transitory anxiety and gave me some drops of xanax to take at occurrance,

Saturday, lucky, i didn't went to work so i decided to take my bicycle for in the morning. Meanwhile i was driving... the same happened... sweating....nausea and irregual heartbeats. I took the 0.5mg of xanax but nothing has changed till the night with insomnia, tremors, confusion. A condition similar to fewer.

Sunday... another time the same... i called my doc and he sayd to increase the xanax at 1mg.... nothing.... always the same and with lower breathing.

Yesterday.... blackout totally syncope! Fortunately i was on job and my employer called the emergency who find a lot of exrasystolis not compatible with a panick attack. In all this my doc inxist to took the escitalopram and wait some others days. Now i'm totally displeased with him... anyway today at brekfast i took for the last time 5mg of escitalopram with the same effects and infact i'm still at home with a sort of unknow "fear of all" never experienced before!

Someone with the same side effects?

p.s. many years ago, when the first tinnitus started, i was prescribed on daparox (praoxetine) that i had to leave after few days maybe due to the same side effectss now i don't remember with precision but it is the same family of drugs. ssri

Thank you to everyone in advance

I, too have just started Lexapro. I'm having basically the exact symptoms you are. It has made me incredibly shaky and my tinnitus seems louder than ever. I have scaled it back to even halving a dose and only taking 2.5 mg. My problem is, I can't get a full night's sleep, which is exacerbating the tinnitus. So you're definitely not alone.

Could it be due to your insomnia? I was on Lexapro for 4 years and it did not increase my tinnitus. I use Valium for insomnia once in a while with no issue.
