I ran across this today, lily Tomlin found a way to mention tinnitus on her TV show. I thought I'd share it here. Show Has been canceled.

Hmmm, I thought I read (LT) she had tinnitus, and was doing what she could in her own way to make people aware of it. I did a Google search and could find anything about her having T. I thought about deleting the post but I think it further proves how others need to be better informed of how T affects our lives.

The indeed totally: "should be shot on sight" aspect of making T into a joke aside...What on earth are they laughing about or even saying on that clip??? Am I just a total Martian??? No bloody clue, and 100% justifies my never turning the TV on except for Netflix or library movies I choose.
If anyone knows even who this woman is they should baste her big time and get a bloody apology...also tell her to look at this: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CRPT-113hrpt247/html/CRPT-113hrpt247.htm

I had the same reaction to the clip as you. They even pegged my WTF Meter!

Because while it might be funny to the general public, it belittles us who have tinnitus and have had to suffer with it, or are still suffering.

I didn't see it that way. I interpreted it as her character making a point regarding something in her past. It didn't come off as funny, though, and it appears to be an outtake. Often time actors will find humor when they are unable to nail the lines and try to ad lib.

I didn't see it as belittling people who have tinnitus, either. She was not making fun of people who suffer or commenting on people whose lives have been severely impacted.

Comedy is rife in humor regarding physical afflictions. Remember the Seinfeld with Marlee Maitlan as the lip reader? Or Elain pretending to be deaf to avoid conversing with the cabby? Plenty of jokes regarding blind, deaf, etc. And it's not belittling.

Not trying to argue here. Just making a point that often we might see what we want to see, and feed our own negative emotions.

Actually, those are good points. I guess I was being a little sensitive because of how bad others have it on here. But you're right, comedians tend to make light of all health problems, not just tinnitus.
