Cause of Tinnitus
menieres
My experience with Menieres began at age 15 with tinnitus and vertigo; today I'm 60.

As an adult I would have occasional attacks of both, then it would leave me alone for months or even years.

Lately, tinnitus has become more constant, but with less vertigo attacks. I have a theory that Lipo-flavonoids has helped. I began working with a Starkey technology guy about a month ago. He says that my problem is hearing loss, and the brain is making up the noise of tinnitus to offset auditory nerve deterioration. So he fitted me with the latest bluetooth hearing aid devices, which helped initially.

But in the last 4 weeks, tinnitus has spiked dramatically. It's never been this persistent or loud - in both ears. The Starkey guy called this a "bobber effect" that could last for months, and I just need to ignore it. I need to function on the phone, but at times I just can't even with the bluetoooth devices. I'm seeking help from an audiologist at Mayo Clinic, and looking for another solution.

Is it a brain function that can be de-programmed with a program such as Tinnitus Terminator, or is it a physiological issue that can be treated with supplements such as Tinniticil? I don't know.

I'm looking for someone else with similar experience. Blessings everyone.

Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
I have Menieres also and hearing loss and sever bilateral tinnitus about 12 years
I take Betahistine and cinnarazine.
I have duel purpose hearing aids.
My tinnitus got so bad I was in hospital a few days having scans MRI CT and lumbar puncture and awaiting see audiology and my Menieres specialist again.
My doctor said my nerves in my head were missfireing and put me on nortryptaline and has settled my head tinnitus and also my ears down a notch and help me sleep.
Worth asking your doctor about it...lots of love glynis

Happy Christmas

What makes you think either of those products would work? What I've read here tells me they're both big S C A M S...

Amber,
It seems to me that everyone's experience is a little different. Some report these products to be effective, others say "don't waste your money." They might be scams ... the biggest reason I'm here is to find wisdom from the experiences of others. What has worked for you?

The only possible solution for menieres
are Anti Virals.
and by the way you describe your menieres, you might be a good candidate for it.
google menieres and antivirals.

@DShrades, There are many scams out there including the ones you mentioned. You should look at the ATA site or possibly this: http://www.tinnituscenter.com/ or this: https://www.soundrelief.com/tinnitus-treatment/. I have talked to Dr. Shulman a little in the past, but know nothing about the place in Colorado....just was looking at their site recently.

I have a loud static type hiss right now that is very annoying. I don't have Menieres, but understand how debilitating that could be. I did have some nystagmus at one time though. Lipoflavanoids have a lot of vitamin B complex in them but unsure if they help much. I have a large bottle of them. Some people are B-12 deficient because of taking PPI's. for acid reflux.

I have HFHL according to my audiogram which I assume is causing my noise. The noise seems to go away once in a while only to return upon awakening. I am still considering TRT. Right now I'm trying Gabapentin/Clonazepam plus Lamictal and some supplements.

Hi ... Just read your story. Wow.. you have lived with this a long time. What has kept you going all these years?

Nancy

Thanks, Nancy
Fortunately it's been something over the years that will come and go; I've been able to function, because the tinnitus/vertigo are intermittent and only sideline me for a few hours. But this latest spike is the worst ... loud, persistent, and in both ears. The last five weeks have been a whole new league. Thanks for your compassion!

Please let us know if the Starkey hearing aids/maskers help you long term. I've been to Mayo and know Starkey is in the Twin Cities. I've been to ENT's up there, but not the tinnitus clinic in Edina.

I am also new to the group. In October,2016...a plane flight landing caused my problems. I do have now moderate hearing loss in my right ear. With the volume turned up to max on my TV and my left ear blocked, the voices are barely audible and sound like they are in a tin can in my right ear. I think that is the reason behind my Tinnitus. I started with pulsatilla but now is less to a constant beat. Tonight it is a solid loud mild pitch.....constant. What I need is a M.D. That specializes in hearing loss/ Tinnitus. I live in Maryland .....any suggestions would be appreciated..

I think I got some damage like you from a airplane descent in 2008. I got fluid in my left ear which I never did before. It seems the 2 stage flights, especially the short ones can cause problems in some people with Eustachian tube dysfunction.

Over the last week I had some more sound spikes which led to mild to moderate vertigo, which characteristically led to some temporary reduction in tinnitus. When tinnitues fades, even for a day, it's hope giving. It's not permanent yet.

This week I see both the Starkey professional and have an appointment at Mayo Clinic. Will let everyone know what comes of it.

Hi just1morething,

The Starkey devices are helping, despite T spikes and occasional vertigo. It's been 2 months now, and I can hear better with them than without them. The masker doesn't seem to help the T, but my overall hearing function is better with the Starkeys.
