Hello everyone. I just started this and I'm so glad it exists. I'm looking for support and people to talk to who understand my struggle, because no one I know does . I'm Alexa and I'm 16 years old. Anyways, I'll give a little back story.

I just got tinnitus this year. I had good hearing a while back and life was great, then all the sudden this happened. My eardrum is retracted (probably from tubes when I was young) and the ringing/whooshing in my ears is very scary to me. It can be masked my sounds, but once it hits silence, it's a nightmare. I can't stand being in silence, and everytime I try not to think about it, I just think about it more. I really don't know how to life a normal life again. I don't feel like a teen anymore, I feel like I can't be normal and I can never be happy again. Every time I get happy about something, I remember my eardrum is retracted and my tinnitus will never go away. I feel like I can never ever be content with life ever. If i could have one wish it would be for normal ears and no tinnitus, that would be my absolute biggest dream. Anyways, I just want people to talk to because it's really hard going to school and seeing people happy about life or mad about something, but at least they don't have this. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone. Thanks for reading if you did. :dunno:

So sorry that this happened to you.

Tinnitus is very hard in the beginning, but it does get better. I know it's hard to believe, but it gets easier. A lot of people move on with their lives. In time you will too.

Best,

Hi @Random Alexa

I'm really sorry to read that you're struggling with this, and at such a young age too. I've had tinnitus for 2 years, brought on after a wax removal procedure, and I know how difficult it is living with this condition.

Do you have friends or family you can talk to about this? If not feel free to message me, it's not easy when we don't have people we can talk to. It's also hard for people to understand when they don't suffer from tinnitus.

In the meantime try to live your life, you are very young, things may improve for you. Don't spend all your time thinking and worrying about this, it will only make you worse. I'm sure that the tinnitus will get better in time, but be sure to be careful around noise... That's what caused my tinnitus.

Take care
Blue

You say your tinnitus can be masked by sound. That's good. Do you enjoy music? I play music in the background all day when I'm at home. At night, you could put on some white noise or nature sounds.

I know you long for silence. I do too. But since we can't have it, at least we can have good music.

thabk you so much, it helps a lot knowing people are here. it's really bad today and it's probably because i had a lot of sodium and i went out for the night.
