Hey, I have a question to anyone who has taken Lorazepam.

I was just prescribed Lorazepam for a week to take before bed for my anxiety. I also have tinnitus and it's lately gotten pretty bad.

When I wake up will I still feel all chilled out or will the effects of Lorazepam have worn off by then?

It's my first time taking it and I'm just worried that I'll think my tinnitus has gotten better only for it to go back to being bad again. I mostly wanted sleep meds to help calm me down till my doctor visit to see if it'll help my tinnitus go down because I still don't know if this is a permanent increase or a temporary spike.

lorazepam decreasing tinnitus while you on it.
But, taking lorazepam for more than a week is very dangerous and might increase your tinnitus.

I was only given a week's dose luckily and can only take it once at night.

In my experience it depends somewhat on the dosage. Did they give you half a mg or a full mg? I think if you take a full mg before bed, there's a good chance you'll still feel fairly chill in the morning. A half, probably not. If they prescribed 1 mg tablets and you find that a half is enough to help you, then you can definitely break them in half to get a little more longevity out of them. I don't recommend taking them for too long though. I have had a prescription for years but I only take them every now and then, like 1 every couple weeks or less. I knew someone who took them regularly to sleep and eventually had trouble sleeping without them.

Hi all! I am having a very stressful meeting next week. I am loaded with stress, and it is a meeting which can go towards all directions.

I am thinking of taking some Lorazepam for that specific meeting, I have taken it before and works very well for me. I would like to ask if you think there's any risk.

Also if taking Lorazepam in a very low doses for some months can represent a risk for my tinnitus?

Thanks and best regards.

Lorazepam is good for anxiety and panicking but best to take 1mg or half a mg when you need it the most.

It can become addictive and withdrawals can be tough so with your doctor's advice and support you should gain from the need to take them and a slow taper to reduce them.

Never fear medication under your own doctors advice and support and don't get ordering medication on line.

I have used Lorazepam in different occasions between 4 to 6 weeks at a low dose, every other day and it has never made my tinnitus worst. It really helped me with the anxiety. Just make sure that when you are ready to stop it you tapper off slowly.

It doesn't lower tinnitus though?

I wonder if any med lowers it even somewhat?

Benzo? Muscle relaxer? Anything?

Hey Pete. My ENT prescribed me 1mg lorazepam twice daily, it saved my life when I was at my worst, I didn't think I could go on, it makes it tolerable..with out it... I don't think I'd be here some days.

My ENT didn't do anything. Requested an MRI which I didn't do.

Be very carefull with this one.
It's from the benzo family of medications and it is highly addictive.
Addiction to benzos is stronger than addiction to heroin and it is one of the few meds, where the untapered withdrawal can actually kill you.

It might help you short term, but if not carefull there is a price to pay later, including increase in Tinnitus.

Muscle relaxer? Anything?
Some medications lowers the tinnitus for some people. But like with everything with tinnitus, it s a trial and error on each individual person. Muscle relaxers worked wonders for me...they actually lowered my head drone when it was insanely loud.

When severe Tinnitus first struck me I was desperate to live - and equally desperate to die.
My doctor prescribed a Benzo, which I took for a full month, until I read that it could actually
make Tinnitus worse.
I stopped dead - cold turkey.
Make it worse ?!?!?!
No thank you.
Just sayin'....x

@PeteJ...firstly, I am sorry to hear you are suffering.....I first got tinnitus in 2001, noise induced.....I have hearing loss bilateral....left ear slightly worse. .I struggled for first few months, was suicidal, I was so anxious I thought life was over. Tne noise in my head was loud, I also had hyperacusis, and distorted hearing.... I was given an antidepressant I stayed on that for maybe 5 months, then I ceased it....I habituated to the noise, or did it dissappear, I don't know but I can tell you I had silence the majority of the time ...my tinnitus would only be faintly heard if I was sick or took anti antiimflammory medications......however it did come raise it's ugly head ten years later but only in my left ear occassionaly, hormonal i think in my case...... this was annoying and distressing so I was given klonopin, that's what it is called in the usa....it worked, it lessened my anxiety and annoyance to the screeching sound, however, fast forward to feb 2019, I got dependant on this medication hit tolerance on lowest dose .5....and my tinnitus is now deafening in both ears, so in hindsight this medication made things worse for myself.....I know for others this might not happen, but benzo medications can have major consequences for some of us.....infact I felt suicidal from the withdrawal and the increased deafening tinnitus I am now sufferring ......I am still tapering off this drug and I can tell you, it has made my situation worse....there was no tinnitus talk or forums around when I searched for answers, I had a success story with my tinnitus previously and I am holding on, I'm going to fight to get my life back,...I want a success story number 2.... does that mean I will get silence again, maybe not, but I do not want to die, I know you don't either, believe me the thought still enters my mind....how will I cope, there is no cure, well who knows, it could be round the corner, your ears could settle next week, I hang on to hope....I know when your are in deep despair your probably thinking, that habitation, or hearing people telling you that things could improve, don't help, that we don't understand, that it's all bullshit!!! But I DO UNDERSTAND..I doubt anyone on this forum wouldnt!!! but please hold on, you do whatever it takes, but please be mindful that long term benzo use can be problematic, and once you start it is hard to stop....and some of us have no choice in this matter....I respect everyone's choices in dealing with this horrid condition.....I am just trying to let you know, things could improve if you give it time...that's what keeps me going....so please try to give it more time....do not give up, one minute at a time....stay strong, I know you are fighter, like you said your still here....

Take what then?

I am always tense no matter what I do. Worse in sleep which I can't control.

@glynis I liked your post, to @PeteJ I agreed with it for the most part, However the never fear the medication under your doctors advice did not sit well with me. I am a Nurse and I know Doctors do not always understand the side effects or the long term complications some medications can have on our body. Unfortunately I learned this the hard way. I am not Doctor bashing, all I am saying is we should research the medications we are given, especially when you are a tinnitus sufferer. Many medications can make our tinnitus spike, Doctors no not readily check if a medication is otoxic when prescribing. I have found the pharmacists to have a lot more knowledge in this regard. If only I had done my research about medications before taking them and not trusted my Doctor I would not be in the mess I am now. I know we cannot fear all medication, but some class of medications should not be the first choice for tinnitus in the long term. If possible Benzo medication should not be messed with.
And you are correct do not order medication online!!!
