Loud Fire Alarm Caused Ringing in Ears... Will It Go Away?

I recently had to help my neighbor disconnect three of her powered fire alarms, which were going off. I spent about 10-15 minutes trying to stop them and now my ears are ringing, my right more than my left. Will the ringing subside? Am I likely to have damaged my ears perminantly? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks Steven

I would go see your doctor as sometimes steroids help in the first few days.
Your ears have had a loud shock so only time will tell but as every chance in settling down again..Stay positive for now....lots of love glynis

No good deed goes unpunished.

Will the ringing subside?
Hard to say at this point. Wait 3 more months.

Am I likely to have damaged my ears perminantly?
I would say yes.

Explore this forum for possible treatments, ie.
Steroid
AM101
HBOT
Sound therapy

If it hasn't subsided after 48 hours there is a good chance it will stay for a while. Go see a doctor for immediate action. There are treatments which are only useful several hours after onset. After that you may want to try enrolling in the AM-101 clinical trial. From your case it seems you would qualify.

Thank you all for your quick comments? Some more worrying than others.
Very paranoid about ear troubles as my grandad has perminant hearing loss due to his work.

I have not had tinnitus before and it feels like I have just come out of a club, mostly in my right ear... I think I was covering my left... I felt bad for my neighbour who could do anything about her alarm!

stevenht,
Hopefully the tinnitus will go in few days but see your Dr if it doesn't. It's a good idea not to listen to music through headphones even at low volume.

Has it gotten any better?
