Cause of Tinnitus

Usually get it at night, but now it also occurs often throughout the day too. Really bothersome, all ENT's are unsupportive due to lack of research on tinnitus...

The low humming also gives a feeling of fullness but I cant really notice any change in my hearing bcz when i am hearing other things its harder to notice my hum. So i assume it cancels out with most noise.

I want to know how to make this disappear...its been going on for a few months now but I want it to go and at least just go back to normal tinnitus...which is more bearable bcz its not as loud...

Side notes: it's very loud and noticeable in silent environments, the hum goes away when Im focusing on a dif sound, (the hum is only in my left ear; god i hope it won't happen to both ears...) and it does give a feeling of fullness/pop sometimes, also normal tinnitus occurs simultaneously with it..., and can be heard even when covering my ear

This is weird . I cane to the forum today intending to post about much the same thing !
Sorry I cannot offer any real advice or help but I just wanted to say about what is happening to me too and sometimes it helps to know you are not alone .
I have had raging high pitched , screeching T in my left ear since April this year 24/7 . It wakes me every time I drop off to sleep . I had only just begun to habituate with it and live again when BANG ! It got worse ! Much louder !
As if that is not bad enough my one good ear has started with a low hum when I am tired but it is getting where it does it during the day now too. I am utterly miserable and terrified.
I prefer the high pitched noise if I HAVE to have one .
I am not sure if I can go on if both ears get bad.
My Doctors are hopeless and uninterested. I feel abandonned by the NHS . I just do nit see how I can live perhaps another 20 years or more like this.
I wish you all he luck in the world and hope you get better

Me too man, dont worry, it honestly shoukd get better, for it it has also been going off for longer periods of the day but the good thing abt the low hum is its not there when u are hearing other sounds. Keep believing t will go away, and know that there was a time for me too, when it did go away before coming back, so it shud be possible. May i ask how you got your tinnitus/what kind of exposure uve done to ur ears for it ti become like that?

Don't blame the NHS, you'd get the same response everywhere. There is just very little know about Tinnitus. Its all guess work. Generally , as you calm down. you'll start to rehabituate.

No I never habituated engine noise, for me it's still a daily struggle:(
I find that sleeping on the side of the engine noise, and having a fan on helps to sleep gracefully...at least for now because it's not that bad unless I wake up in the middle of the night, then need to calm down by using the restroom before heading to bed again. I suggest exercising daily, and eating healthy, I've been doing that and feeling better even if symptoms aren't improving. Having a healthy body will make it harder for things to get worse!

Yet it all sucks still honestly...wish there will be a cure someday for tinnitus/deafness for some people. It has to be devastating to lead a life like that, I don't understand why the research done on these ear things are so little. Hopefully they can replace hair cells for humans soon, like they have been able to do for test animals.

Its horrible, I've got a locked jaw, vertigo and T, and its not getting better. There are some interesting clinical trials AM-101 and Susan Shore's trails at University Michigan. They don't think the key is to replace hair cells because many people or animal get damaged hair cells or loose get hearing loss and never get T. I have T with very little hearing loss.

They feel is all has to do with auditory nerves or the timing of signals coming into the dorsal cochlear nucleus. The AM 101 trials is looking to suppress or block signals and the Shore trails is looks to alter the sequence timing. Also the AM 101 is focused on Acoustic trauma and the Shore's is focusing on somatosensory nerves of the face and neck. Like those with TMJ issue. I think phase 3 trials of AM 101 (TACTT3) are happening now in Europe and Phase 2 of Shore's is planned for next year. Funding has be coming in from the US military for AM 101 and Shore's is funded by US grants and Coulter Translational Research Program. I've spoke with a few people who say they were on early trails and found improvement. There are also some research on this going on a Harvard and Massachusetts Eye and Ear

Here is a early explanation.

I got hit im my ear with a slap whole laying down on the 29th of December. And when i got hit it hurt bad and i heard ringing for a couple of minutes and felt pain then i couldnt hear good in my ear for 2 days it felt muffled.then the third day the hearing got better so i let my ear be and i just went for my first visit to thedoctor on thursday because sense the hit i hqve been hearing buzzing in my ear and still am he said all he saw was dry bloodand no infection or ruptured ear drum. Ifthere was blood wouldnt that mean i had a ruptured ear drum but it healed? When should the buzzing im still hearing go away

I got kicked in my ear doing martial arts and had a head scan and examination...
It ended up a being a big cut with his toe nail and blood crusted on my drum.
Put in olive oil drops to clear it out ....lots of love Glynis

If i hace dry blood i should put olive oil drops? And if i still have dry blood is it ok to let it sit there or do i nedd to get it off can the dry blood be causing the tinnitus

Put in olive oil drops daily for at least ten days and then get your doctor or ENT see if it's cleared or they can remove what is left safely causing no damage.
My sons had 3 big ear ops and ear bones out and New drum and that's what we had to do with the after care when ear packing came out to clear out any dried blood...lots of love glynis

Okay i will do that so just olive oil from the store?i also do have moloculison were i have a over bite and my smile is crooked could this be the cause to ? I have had my teeth like that for years though and my ear startred making that noise a week after i was hit

Olive oil from the chemist and will have a ear dropper with it.
You could see a Maxillofacial specialist who can check that our for you....lots of love Glynis

I just wrote about this similar issue with this new noise---a loud, deep humming/vibrational noise in my ear---on my right ear mostly. And this is on top of my high pitch EEE. It does scare me not knowing what it is or why and how long it'll last. I might have to change my white noise sound to incorporate other sounds too to maybe help drown this new noise.
Good luck to all. Hope everyone can find some peace.

I also have the same. Started maybe 3 months ago when we lived in another house. Just out the blue could hear a really loud rumbling noise like a car was approaching but never did. We do live on a road but a quiet road. It was a relief when a car did command go past but then the low hum would still be there. I spent night wandering around outside in the dead of night trying to find cause. But could not really hear it outside. After a few nights (could hear it in the day but less so) it seemed to stop. Then to started a few weeks later. Then we moved to a new house and while not as bad and definitely not as loud I can hear it, especially at night. We are again in a village at the end of a lane. It now seems mainly in my left ear. If I put my finger in my ear it stops.

I have seen an ENT although did not mention the noise just had a general examination and he did not find anything. I have used ear sprays to clean my ears.

If I hold my nose and blow and keep the pressure up it stops that hum noise and I can just "hear" the pressure in my head and my heart beat (I think). When I stop the hum is gone for maybe a second until it starts again.

Worried its something more sinister. I can live with it and does not stop me sleeping. Just having lost a few family members to cancer over the last couple of years now rather paranoid.

But I can't find any reference to any brain cancers or tumours etc causing this symptom except maybe one that is nearly always benign anyway.

I have noticd the same!
A low hum, like an engine or two in the far distance, sometimes humming with interference, at night when everything is quiet. And it stops when I put my fingers in my ears for a couple of seconds. Then it starts again after a few seconds.

I've had the low hum for a couple of years now. It does go away occasionally. My opinion is that it is connected with sinus problems.
Do you think it could be brought on by taking an antihistamine then? I started taking Zyrtec about 2-3 weeks before I developed a hum.
