Hi everyone,
This is a question for all those suffering from low pitched humming. From what I'm reading online (I know, Dr. Google is not my friend!) it seems like low pitched humming tinnitus is often associated with meniere's. Honestly, I was initially terrified at the thought of the humming being permanent, but now I'd gladly take plain old humming over meniere's.

My humming started as the result of fluid in my middle ear. It has been going on for 3 weeks. I don't really have vertigo, but I guess I feel dizzy for a second or two if I move my head quickly. As far as I know, I don't have any hearing loss. Just this annoying hum (and anxiety about it!)

I have an ENT and audiologist appointment in 2 weeks, so I'm sure I'll get more information then. Just trying to make myself feel better in the meantime...

Do any of you with low pitched humming NOT have a meniere's diagnosis/possible diagnosis on the table?

Thanks!

Hey don't worry or be fearful. I have a low hum myself and so does mother. I went to ENT and everything is perfect. ENT specialist said it is my nerves causing the humming. Look at Julian Cowan Hill videos they are very helpful and inspiring. Hope you are well and we can get through this T and live a T free life.

I've had a low-pitched humming for over 20 years. When it started, I had every imaginable medical test performed including three MRI's and multiple hearing tests. Everything came back normal. No Meniere's and no hearing loss.

The humming will sometimes disappear for up to a year and then come back for no reason. It came back this past Dec. 23 after being absent for about 8 months. It hasn't faded away yet. This is the longest it's returned. I've been on an antidepressant for ten years which has helped me cope.

I've also had a high-pitched hissing in my head for 20 years, but I habituated to that a long time ago. I have never habituated to the humming.

@Adam12ver, thank you for your encouragement. I'll check out those videos.
@joseph Ghass by detox diet, do you mean restricting sodium? Or another type of diet?
@Frayact wow, 20 years!! I'm going crazy after 20 days! Strange coincidence, bu is my humming started on Dec 23...same day yours started back up.

I guess I'm reading too much online! The humming is weird...it stops when I talk, when I shake my head down, and when I sleep on that side. That leads me to believe fluid of some sort is involved. I had fluid in my middle ear a few weeks ago (when it started), and I'm hoping I just have dysfunctional e-tubes and not an inner ear fluid problem.

@Frayact I will...it's still a week and a half away. I've read too much on here and I've seen that a lot of posters with my exact symptoms (low hum that stops when talking or with other noises) end up with a meniere's or hydrops diagnosis. Those who have a more consistent hum (doesn't stop while talking) seem to just have a mysterious hum. I'm trying not to freak out, and I hope the ENT is willing to work until we find out what is, or isn't going on. They have me scheduled with the audiologist first, so the ENT will be able to go over everything with me at that appointment (though I haven't noticed any hearing loss).

mines like yours, deep humming, stops with noises caries on between, started in 2010, just keeps getting louder. General dizziness, rarely any vertigo. No diagnosis but i think i have hydrops. More noises started over the years. I have 3 or 4 now, different sounds in each ear.

I have had a deep hum since last July. Annoys me at night when it seems to pulse with my heartbeat magnifying each beat. The hisses and other tones I can live with now but the hum takes the biscuit.
No other balance issues. Some eye twitching which may be from stress associated with the pulsing hum. Doctors absolutely haven't a clue and waste of time going to ENTs. Like it or lump it as they say.

I Think my T (another problems) comes from a neurological problem.
do you think a diet will help me improve!?
if so, do you have any recommendations?

You can start with an anti-inflammatory diet to lower your inflammation.

Ideally, you need to cut dairy, wheat, nuts, fruits and go into a low carbs diet. Get 12 cups of veggies each day with moderate amount of protein and good fats like avocado, olive oil, coconut oil.

supplement with Omega 3, B complex, Vitamn D3 + K2.

Drink lemon every day, exercise and manage your stress.

try to incorporate these for at least 3 months.

When should the buzzing im still hearing go away?dentist did say i have moloculison and needed braces but i have needded it for years. And i do have my two top wisdom teeth fully in for a while now.the buzzing is only happening in the ear i was slapped in .still happening right now. Cant even sleep with it only noticble during silent or quiet times.feedback is needed i also did just get my absecc tooth pulled last month in the begenning of month and hole is still open but went to dentist yesterday and dentist said its healing great.also my jaw does click when eating alwAys has sense i was younger.i dont know whay could be the cause but it started happening when i got hit in the ear.i also never got no nasal spray for my ears or drops or antibiotics.

I have exactly what you have. My developed 2 years ago. The hum is constant until I start talking then it goes away. When I lower my head it stops. But starts up again when I am silent. I sometimes would feel dizzy. I went to every ENT imaginable etc. Took tests, MRI, etc. Came back with low frequency hearing loss and pressure in my head. 2 organs in my right ear did not respond to certain tests. I asked what causes that? They said Meniere's disease. After 2 years, finally got diagnosed with Meneire's. I will tell you one thing that can help and DOES try the Lipoflavonoids. They sell them over the counter at Walgreens, CVS, etc. People told me to try it. And I laughed. Nothing the doctors were prescribing helped. Why would something over the counter. In three days, no hum. Take 2 pills 3 times a day to start. If you have Meniere's, it will work. For some reason it usually only works on people with Meniere's. But it does work. And then get a ENT that knows about Meneieres. I have been taking valium as needed and promethazine. Feel free to ask me questions. Good luck. :)

Thanks, @Gin. I've actually read a lot of your posts and can identify nearly 100% with the hum you describe. (I hope that doesn't sound too creepy!). I don't, however, have much in the way of dizziness (yet?)

Yesterday, the hum went away on its own, and it's been gone all morning. I have a slight full feeling in both ears, but also a little congestion and post nasal drip, so that might be related. I've read some of your previous posts and noticed you said the hum would come and go at first.

I'll try lipoflavonoids if the hum comes back, thanks for the suggestion!

Do you see a regular ENT or a neurotologist? There's only one neurotologist in my area, and he's still nearly an hour away.

If you don't mind my asking, how noticeable was your lower frequency hearing loss? I just did an iPhone app test (no idea how accurate it is!) and it showed my lower frequencies (125/250) were around 15-20 decibels, but then the line sloped upward and my higher frequencies (4000/8000) were at 0 decibels or negative numbers.

I'm trying not to put the horse before the cart, but I also want to be on top of things.

Gin, I seem to have similar symptoms to you, i.e. occasional dizzyness, balance problems, humming in the ear all the time. I have been on behistamine 3 tabs a day, occasionally if feeling nauseus taking buccastem. I believe behistamine is a antihistamine, would taking lipoflavinoids be ok, also with behistamine?? Not sure if this would add to my problem or help?? I have found I fluctuate my behistimine quota, like bet. 1 1/2 to 2 a day, sometimes 3 if I have a bad attack of fluid in the ears. Any advice out there would be helpful... Christine

I bought a wedge to help me sleep upright. I took about 2 or 3 days of sleeping on it to totally get rid of the drone. It's been over a week now. We'll see if it comes back.

I've taken Lipoflavanoids for 2 months, 6 pills each day and it did not helped the drone/hum. Anybody has tried anything else that has helped?

Well the meds my last ENT prescribed me searching on the internet are for Meniere's...
He didn't mention though...
I have had that since a child.... If it is what I'm thinking about
