Magnesium for Relief of Tinnitus Research

Hi @Karen

I got magnesium glycinate in combo with citrate and carbonate. I have attached image. The bottle says magnesium total for 2 capsule is 166 mg and does this mean I can take upto 4 per day to reach around 600 mg? Also do you have variations in your pulsatile T due to different food intake as in extra spicy food makes my PT sounds like some motor rotating in my ear? Any experience for suggestion of food items??

Thanks a lot!

Hi, @Riya,

The directions on my bottle of magnesium glycinate say that you can take 4 capsules per day, with a meal or glass of water. Serving size: 4 capsules for a total of 400 mg. I don't usually take that many; I usually just take 1 or 2 per day.

My pulsatile tinnitus doesn't seem to vary with the foods I eat, but since yours does, I would suggest experimenting with different types of foods, and going easy on the heavily spiced ones and the ones containing a lot of sugar. That might help you a lot with your comfort level in living with pulsatile tinnitus.

Hi @Karen

Yes I am experimenting with food :) also with work outs and neck movements, the sounds with thumping effect changes as in increases. So I am not sure if I am supposed to do those movements or keep them relaxed for now? My confusion with magnesium is whether total magnesium intake is 600 to 800 mg or if elemental Mg levels needs to be that high?

Hi, again, @Riya,

I have read that the highest dose you should take per day is 300 to 500 mg. of magnesium, in whatever form that might be.

I would keep your neck movements somewhat relaxed for now, until you can determine what is going on, or until things settle down. When my PT first started, it seemed that exercise often made mine worse, but it has no effect now.

Hi. Reading all this about magnesium. I have always taken this supplement. I take something called ZMA. It's a combination of magnesium, b-6, and zinc. Many different brands of the same type of formula are made. It's usually magnesium asparate as the form. I've read that any type of magnesium that ends in "ate" will be absorbed better than regular magnesium oxide. Wondering if I should just try to take a bit more of it to maybe see possible results. As a few have said already, the glycinate form is supposed to be real good.
