Magnesium

I had tinnitus for 12 years , went to many doctors and nothing helped until I discovered the reason.
I had a Mg magnesium deficiency and 2 weeks after I started out on 2 x 500 mg magnesium capsules, amazingly one day it just went silent in my ears and I was amazed. Even my doctor would not believe me! Then I stopped the magnesium and the ringing was back, as loud and irritating as before. Again I used the magnesium and voila tinnitus was gone again. I got rid of it on 2 pills a day, but some ppl might need more.
Just thought of sharing this miracle with you people, because it almost drove me crazy.
Also Mg cost me less than $7 per month.

Please try it and report here if your tinnitus also disappear like mine. And please tell your doctor! as they don't know this.

I've been trying magnesium for 2 weeks now. I'm not noticing any difference with my ears but I have less problems with twitching muscles, less anxiety and my bowel movement has improved so that is nice.

@Giel I reported yesterday that most honest doctors and scientists believe that magnesium - and I quoted " not to over use the magnesium" along with a some B12 from time to time is the best vitamins that may help some with tinnitus. Vitamins are big business and they pay all the WebMD BS news media companies to write articles. In fact, they even have posters write positive comments about vitamins on health related message boards. They want desperate ones with an onset of tinnitus to buy into this BS that vitamins will greatly help or cure your tinnitus. Zinc is worthless for tinnitus.

Have you ever read some of the product reviews for anything on Amazon! Many 5 stars comments are written by company employees or hired writers.

Vitamins like B and C may help you with exercise that may help you habituate.
A proper is diet important.

I tried magnesium yesterday and even started with only half on the prescribed dose. I have to report that it caused a MAJOR spike in my tinnitus. Before you ask, yes, magnesium was the only thing that I did yesterday that could have caused this spike. There where no other circumstances that could have caused this.

My reaction was as follows. I took one half of a pill before going to bed (naturemade brand) and an hour later i woke up with this crazy high-pitched ring in my bad ear. I is going a bit better now, but I feel my ears are still very sensitive 12 hours later.

Hi, @ChrisJ,

I've been taking magnesium chloride for a couple of years now, on the recommendation of an acupuncturist. (The acupuncturist wasn't able to help me with my tinnitus, but he was quite knowledgeable about supplements).

I take the magnesium every night, about an hour before bedtime. As you said, it really helps you to mellow out, and settle down naturally to sleep. When I first began taking it, I was distraught, as a result of my tinnitus and pulsatile tinnitus. Back then, I was experiencing the feeling that my entire body was vibrating from the pulsating. The magnesium helped me calm down, and that feeling finally went away.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try a natural supplement, both for calming and for sleep.

Hi, if you don't mind me asking what mg are you taking, thanks

@AuntSally Magnesium supplements can help repair nerve damage in the auditory pathways since it is all made up of nerves. It is usually used when the tinnitus was caused by loud noise exposure. If you are sure that you have pulsatile tinnitus then I don't think magnesium will help your sleep depravation and anxiety. You need the proper treatment which I have previously mentioned and believe is the best to help you. I know that you don't want to pursue this route but you are only making things harder on yourself.
All the best
Michael
Hello Michael, what is the treatment that you had previously mentioned, I am so desperate for some relief. Thanks
Glenn

HI Glenn,
I have read your post on another thread and see that you have menieres. My advice for people wanting to take magnesium supplements was for anyone that that tinnitus that was caused by "loud noise". It can help repair nerve damage since the auditory system is mostly made up of nerves. In your case, I think it is best for you is to be seen by your ENT doctor or someone that specialises in Meniere's as it is this that is causing your tinnitus. @glynis a friend of mine and a valued member of this forum also has this condition. She is well versed in the treatment for it and will be able to help you far more than I can. Hopefully, she will be able to advise you when she is next on the forum as I have alerted her to this thread.

Sorry I am unable to help you.
Hope you start to feel better soon.
Michael

Thanks you very much for your reply, and the mention of the lady with menieres. I hope to hear from her.
Thanks again and have a great weekend!

@GP55,
Hi Glenn,
Menieres can be hard to live with and the tinnitus can be so sever.
I run a Tinnitus Support Group with another lady and also provide support for Menieres Sufferers and linked up to Menieres UK.
I have had Menieres over 12 years.
I see you have had Sac decompression and now finding your tinnitus unbareable.
Nortryptaline can help sleep at a low dose and calm tinnitus down for some people.
It helps me sleep and stopped my head tinnitus.
Cinnarazine 15mg tablets is good for Menieres and can calm down tinnitus for some people.
Most of my symptoms from Menieres has stopped now and left with some hearing loss and Sever tinnitus in both ears
I also have duel purpose hearing aids.
I will support you all I can and understand what you are going through totally.
Love glynis

Hi, Thanks for your reply, I am from the states and not familiar with cinnarazine, I think it is an antihistemine. I take klonopin at night, but not every night as I don't want to get addicted to it. I still get vertigo but it has eased up on the frequency, and general off balance, those are a piece of cake it's the T that is literally driving me nuts. I have tried hearing aids with and without the masker, and no luck. I think I will try some type of antihistemine and leaning towards magnesium. Have you ever tried magnesium?
Thanks
Glenn

Hi ,
I haven't tried Magnesium .
At the moment I have just come off Betahistine after 12 years as my new doctor said he thinks now I might be ok off it and just keep Cinnarazine 15mg when need it and for my asthma allergies also.
Sorry to hear hearing aids and maskers don't help you.
Have you been offered steroid injections into your ear ?
Love glynis

Not sure how reliable this is

"According to the latest research activities, the players in the global tinnitus market are considering the use of magnesium in their drugs, as it has been found that magnesium-rich diet is expected to reverse the condition."
https://www.medgadget.com/2017/06/t...tion-types-and-forecast-report-2017-2025.html

However, magnesium seems like a good supplement to take anyway, since many people seem to be deficient:

"Almost half (48%) of the US population consumed less than the required amount of magnesium from food in 2005-2006"

Do you have any links to evidence regarding it does help repair nerve damage in the ear Michael?

What type and brand of magnesium do you take?

I'm new here.Have been suffering from the squeaking squealing noises 24/7 for decades. Sometimes it changes pitch loudness or both. tension in neck muscle effects changes. Ambient noise makes it worse.

I've been taking Mag for months & feel no change. May be need to try taking more.

Today saw an on line ad video for a a combo B3,B6,B9,B12 with phytonutrients supplement. The sales pitch said that tinnitus is a symptom of a deadly brain deterioration that eventually leads to dementia & death. I didn't put their URL here so as not to advertise them. Anyone here know anything about that concept? it is scary.

Any input on magnesium.

That is a scare tactic and should be ignored. T is a neurological disorder, but is not indicative of your brain deteriorating or you dying.

Notched white noise is one treatment that works for some people. Maybe check out a treatment thread on that?

At 70 the when memory or coordination does slip a bit now & then, such talk as in their ad does get worrisome at times.

I have had Tinnitus since 2001. Few days ago, I started taking some potassium supplements and now I am feeling much better. I am feeling my tinnitus is going away.

What is the best time to take Magnesium. I have a bottle of Magnesium L-Threonate at the house that I haven't finished but I somewhat started. From what I have been reading it seems that people take this before going to bed?

Also which form has the highest bioavailability?

I started taking magnesium last Sunday, so now a week into it. At first, I felt the ringing got worse for about a day....then it eased off....and although I still hear it, the last two days have been pretty good. There is still ringing but it has diminished.

A huge benefit has been my ability to sleep. I have been taking 400mg after dinner. I seem to feel much more relaxed. For about three days have slept without any white noise apart from my air purifier, which is always on anyways.

Not sure if it is the magnesium or a coincidence...but I have felt better so I am going to enjoy it!

Another thing...although I went out searching for Magnesium Threonate which seems the more recommended...I ended up buying Magnesium Oxide which usually gets bad marks for absorption but I found a couple of studies that said Oxide was well absorbed also, although higher doses are recommended.
http://doctormurray.com/magnesium-oxide-shown-to-be-well-absorbed/

Funny you should mention that. I was just going to post that I have Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Oxide (an inexpensive brand), and Magnesium Oxide seems to have more of an effect -- or at least in terms of calming. I always thought it was the least absorbed.
