Cause of Tinnitus
Loud noise
I am now about 12 days in to this shit and it seems to be getting worse.

I have an appointment with my doctor on thursday I did not go earlier because I did not realize what T was and figured it would go away. The severity is getting more intense it started with a high pitch frequency but today I also felt pressure on my ears and hypersensitivity to sounds and headaches.

My neck muscles are all tensed up I have not slept well for days without taking oxazepam and even that wont knock me out.

I was stressed before given I am writing my thesis and have other stressful situations going on at the moment, but today at the library it went into full blown panic attacks. I was able to ignore the noise so far but at the moment it's starting to drive me crazy the idea that it might never go away or even get worse. Just regular sounds of everyday walking down the street seem to hurt my ears at the moment. Everything buzzes and rings so loud!

What to do? I am trying to calm the anxiety down but even oxa won't help.

Pretty much freaking out at this stage. I have exams this week I don't know what to with myself.

Are you using masking apps? I suggest getting white noise. Since your in the begining i suggest a heavy amount of masking but no headphones or ear buds. As a tip i will tell you the best sounds for me are the sound of my sink and crickets as well. With the white noise app you can create your own sound loops so i suggest making a recording of your sink. Play this at night when you sleep and try and lay flat so you dont lay on your ears. One of those airplane pillows helped alot for me in the beginning. Now i can sleep on a pillow resting on my ears with no issues and i dont use any drugs. I would also suggest trying some residual inhibition. Look into that as a way to give yourself breaks if your tinnitus is tonal. There is also a general fuzz website that has ACRN therapy that you can try as well. Hang in there man. It does get better and i am telling you that from my own experience. I dont know if it will ever go away but i still have been able to manage my life the way i want. One last thing i highly recommend is to looking into custom fitted musician ear plugs. Keep them with you at all times and use them in areas where the noise levels go above 85 decibles.

@RobO . Stress and anxiety is not helping your tinnitus that's the two things that make tinnitus a whole lot worse. Stress and anxiety is causing your neck muscles tensing up. It's normal to have all these problems when first getting tinnitus. You need to find ways to bring your stress and anxiety levels down. I found Indian head massage a great benefit for me and listening to relaxation music. When your stress and anxiety is under control you're going to feel a whole lot better. I don't know if your depressed but this also is a problem when first getting tinnitus. It's good that you have made an appointment with your doctor. Hope this little information helps you please let me know how you get on. It does get better believe me. Good luck.

Sounds exactly like my onset, reactive tinnitus after severe acoustic trauma. hearing it on top of cars driving by, water running, fridges, fans etc. Makes masking pointless, in fact more annoying. Bet music doesn't sound right either. In addition to overall sensitivity to sound, and of course the constant tinnitus tones heard in quiet rooms/at night.

8 months in I'm still hoping it will go away.
I'm sorry man, i've got no answers.

When you stop hoping it will go away, is when you will start habituating.

I have the same symptoms as him. There are not really any habituation possible or its not the main priority. Like him my tinnitus can only be heard in quiet rooms or at night so I couldn't care less. It's the distorted sounds and tones on top of other sounds that are annoying and there are no habituating to that... Plus the H it's very annoying

How in the hell do you keep your mind off it... I am thinking about it the whole time. What should I ask the doctor if there is no cure to this what is there to talk about...
