Hi

Just wondering if anyone with tinnitus and TMJ problems has visited Sweden to see Marie Tullberg? She has a dental-based practice specialising in treating people with tinnitus and jaw problems.

Here is a google translated page of a news article on her
https://translate.google.com/transl...od/tinnitus-tandlakaren-kan-hjalpa/&sandbox=1

She works at Brahekliniken and has some published research on her work see

We have visited a colleague of hers who works in both Sweden and England and were very interested in his approach. I will post back in a few months to let you know if his recommendations have started to help.

Best wishes to everyone.

I have been there once.
She told me I didn't have any visible problems with TMJ and that my jaw was looking fine. Then she told told me to bite some plastic and she was a bit baffled that my jaw aligned differently. To be honest I don't get if I needed further treatment or not, felt like she gave me contradictory messages.
She also told me to sand (is that the right word?) down some few teeth so make them more even.
I don't know how much help she was, either I wasn't the right patient for her or she wasn't as helpful as I hoped. I have clenched my jaw in my sleep for the past few years (before T) and I can get really bad T if I had spent a night with tense jaw, so I know there is some correlation but she couldn't help beside giving me like wooden sticks to have in my mouth to make my jaw more aligned.

Good luck!

Hi Fangen

Thank you for your reply! Sounds like you didn't find your consultation that helpful then. That's a shame, I'm sorry it didn't help you.

Did you try using the sticks btw?

It is fine :) One size does not fit all, I do believe she can help but I just think it wasn't the solution for me :) Also I have NIHL, but it mostly felt that it got worse temporarily with the jaw issues so I wanted to get rid of that at least.
I have but it seriously is a distraction at work and at home when you might have to talk to people and also I got a bit irritated on having something sticking out from my mouth all the time. You should use anything to be honest, doesn't have to be those specific sticks.

No, I guess with NIHL it might not have helped much. My son's t was caused by a jaw joint injury, so it does sound more relevant for him. He's going to have a go with the stick and also mouthguard thingy for night time.

We'll see how it goes, fingers crossed!

Thanks Fangen

I wish him luck and hopefully it could help!

I went there because my T went up a bit and I was worried that it was getting worse due to TMJ problems, I rather have milder T than go around with louder if I can do anything to quiet it down a bit :)
I hope he can get the help and relief from her!

I just realised that I never came back to finish this thread.

Unfortunately, after dental work with an appliance to reduce the stress at the jaw, there has been no improvement in the tinnitus. I must say that the dentist involved was very kind and professional and really spent a long time trying to get things right. He made probably the most extensive examination and mapping of the face and neck muscles that I have seen.

He had hoped for improvement in 6 months, but it didn't happen and the device is still in use a year later.

We came away with some good lifestyle advice and a variety of stretches and exercises to reduce forward head position and improve posture.

So, no win, but we feel it was worth a go. I'm not sure how many others have gained relief from adjustments to the jaw and bite, but I'd be very interested to hear of any success stories.
