When I massage the back of my head, where you feel the bump at the bottom of the skull, my tinnitus drops 5-6 points instantly, and then fades back in several seconds later. No tapping, just hard pressure going in circular motion for a couple of seconds. Works every time.

Any thoughts as to why?

I have noticed this a bit too. I think rubbing your head seems to make our mind turn attention from tinnitus for a moment and focus on the sound and feeling of your head being rubbed.

Tense muscles on your head can contribute to tinnitus. Massaging them temporarily releases the tension.

I get back of head headaches there. My sizzling tinnitus sometimes lessens or calms down when I rub that part of my head or base of neck. Left side neck/base of skull headaches only and left side sizzling squealing tinnitus. Who knows.
