Cause of Tinnitus
Something popped in my head
I would like to ask you for as many sources on metabolic tinnitus as possible.

Does anyone have it? What was the onset like, did it start gradually or instantly? Which metabolic disorders contributed to it in your opinion?

My tinnitus started in a split second. I heard a pop in my head and there it was. That was years ago and it still persists. Sometimes it gets really quiet for a few hours or even days, but then shoots up in volume again. It's usually loudest when I wake up.

I am obese and have a pretty bad case of diabetes, I'm taking insulin. I'm also on medication for high blood pressure and hyperlipidemia.

My doctor sent me to an MRI scan of head and neck, but they found nothing wrong.

What concerns me is that I might have damaged some part of my brain or a nerve perhaps due to my carbohydrate abuse.

What do you guys think?

Medications for high blood pressure can exacerbate tinnitus. Maybe look into the medicines you are taking.

Metformin?
Metformin chloride, yes. It doesn't make any difference to my tinnitus though, one way or the other.

This is what I found regarding metabolic tinnitus:
Metabolic tinnitus: this subtype of tinnitus is caused or influenced by eating habits like prolonged fasting or sugar/carbohydrate abuse. The supporting findings were: presence of low frequency tinnitus (250Hz) in alignment with increased threshold in this frequency, aural fullness and daily compulsive consumption of sweets.
