Music Festival... Stupid Idea?

Not worth it. I went to a concert, got tinnitus. Nobody warned me, so I went to a night club and got hyperacusis/ttts or whatever the fuck it is i have. overnight. bam. no change since. if anything slightly worse.

all those places are about the loud music and the drugs anyways, and you can have neither because t and h have links with both. and these concerts suck donkey dicks too. david guetta aint no laura nyro, the unity is fake, the sex is riddled with class taboos, its all a yuppie weekend turd fest to justify their weekday puritan ways.

david guetta's ''without you'' vs ''a message to young ppl from andrei tarkovsky''... and heavy metal can also go take a dump too.

Steve what kind of festivals do you go to? Did you end up going?
I have been an avid festival goer for about 5-6 years. I love it. The music. The art. The people. The freedom.
Anyways, I ended up with rare condition, Palatal myoclonus, and tinnitus is one of the aspects of it. It sucks, not going to sugar-coat it.
I have still went to festivals and concerts since then though. I have def cut back, starting wearing ear protection, etc. It has been a hard pill to swallow-that my love for music is effected by this health condition BUT I love it too much to let it completely stop me.

Only you can truly answer your original question.

Just another take: stress seems to make tinnitus/other neuro conditions worse for most people. Your T def sounds a little different than the way other people explain, but if you're like me NOT GOING to these type of events causes MORE Stress and that's because I love it so much. So sometimes by not doing things we love to do I think we are doing more harm than good even though we are looking out for our best interests..

And if it makes you feel better my tinnitus is very unorthodox as well, but I do have a very rare condition.

I'll leave ya with this..

"its all a yuppie weekend turd fest to justify their weekday puritan ways."

Sureee. Who are you to judge other people? And to throw everyone into a generic category? You realize there are many different types of music festivals right?

..Based on your response, you probably don't though..

"and was staggered by just how loud it was inside. Like... obviously these shows are loud, but I took one of my earplugs out for about five seconds to talk to a guy and I was beyond incredulous at the volume of the music. And that was just between bands!"

...It's crazy what we realize once our health deteriorates. Before my condition started I thought nothing of loud shows. Just that they were fun.

Now, bc my health has taken a hit I am much more in tune to this because I am now actively paying attention...

Thank you for that Kee, I was a little blown away by the ignorance of that statement ha. I'm a big Dead/Floyd guy, but I also love electronic influenced jam groups. STS9 is my absolute favorite group, but they aren't exactly a "jam" group anymore. (They are ON FIRE though with their new bassist.) Tauk just released a new live album on Sound Tribes record label, 1320 records, which is also absolute fire. I have lots of love for the strings too though, I'm a bluegrass person at heart.

What about you Kee? So sorry to hear you're also dealing with the devastation of having music effected in this way like I have, but it's good to know I'm not the only one....

Take care! Hopefully one day, all this will be said and done and we'll be able to rage a show!

This was just a silly and unnecessary comment. I haven't paid to see a live DJ in 5+ years. Are there music fests out there that only market to the young, easily manipulated "raver" kids? Sure. But is that what ALL fests are? Not even close.....

Excellent music is being produced every day, you just need to hunt it down.

Regardless, a little compassion would go a long way. You basically just called me an immature drug addict with poor taste in music, yet you've never met me. Spread love, not this garbage....

My son went to a silent disco and he said you all had to wear headphones so you can only hear the music and dance to it so the local people did not hear the loud music....

As anyone been to one ?
I think it's a stupid Idea and danger to ears....lots of love glynis

Just to be contrary, I gotta say I quite liked this comment. I took at as something along the lines of, "Well, if I can't have that then f*** that!" which strikes me as a spirited/healthy way to look at the situation. I don't think it set out to insult anyone (other than David Guetta p'raps, which I'm not gonna lose much sleep over). It made me smile anyway, and I quite like a bit of heavy metal (when I'm on my own).

I think it's a great idea! At a normal disco, you have no choice except to be exposed to ~110-120 db music, ranges that may be dangerous even with earplugs. If you do it with headphones then it is entirely up to you how much exposure you get.

The guys who initially broke my ear, from La Polla Records (The Dick Label) and other heavy metal testosterone fueled all night concert, and then the repressed late 90s spanish bacalao night club that gave me TTTS/hyperacusis with every single sound startle, deserve none of my respect, I mean, silence. Sozzles.

I don't care how many Magalufers Scottish Oil produces, in the improbable scenario were I to solve my condition tomorrow, following around a bunch of inbred madrilenians negotiate the misery of the work week with their puffed up effort-riddled hormone baths that strived ever so hard to appear effortless and ''free''... would be way down in my bucket list.

The fake sense of community has been mentioned by plenty of people that don't get screwed over like I was by such a system. Ever since Monterey Pop, that utopic festival that was gonna change the world. So if you're all wondering whether to go or not, well just stop it. If you go without ear plugs you'll end up like me, and if you go with earplugs they have to cost a fortune because they have to be custom made and even then you're not sure that the sound or vibration isn't creeping up through your body instead or whether it's even worthwhile with your plugs on and the music so low, or whether you're not gonna take some drugs or alcohol and they drop out and you don't notice cuz you're so stoned or horny or drunk etc.

And I'm fed up with seeing people say they're conflicted about going to such places when I wasn't warned because of ignorance. Damn right you should all be afraid and not succumb to peer pressure. And besides the internet is far superior, it's not like 20 years ago, when there really, and I mean really, was nothing to do.

Did you say you were a big David Guetta fan who thinks his Ibiza turds unite continents and bring world peace? No ofc you didn't so don't try to make it personal. It's to put some edge off the general (fake) appeal of these places.

Fair enough. I guess I misunderstood the tone of your message, it happens sometimes online like this. I genuinely apologize if I upset you, not at all what I'm here for.

I'm sorry too if I offended you. After all, who am I kidding, I'd go to the odd night club or concert without a sweat if I didn't have t/h/ttts. But be careful, there really are wolves in the offline world especially, making terrible translations of the already dubious concept of misophonia, telling people to face their ''fears'' and to go to loud places without a worry.

Dude, I love STS9, and I agree the direction they have gone with Alana is so good. They are coming here next month (Buffalo) and if I'm feeling up to it I'm going to go.. I also enjoy the dead, floyd.

I like a little bit of everything. I know a lot of people say that, but I actually mean it. Love funk (have you ever seen lettuce?), jazz, jam, rock, electronic (mostly downtempo but I do like underground EDM), bluegrass (you know yonder I take it? They are not the same without Jeff Austin...I like Greensky Bluegrass as well), ambient, acoustic/song-writing style etc etc..And you like Tauk too? I just saw them not too long ago. The only festival I went to last summer was the werk-out and Tauk played..I thought they sounded really good. Like if Papadosio and Umphreys had a baby it would be Tauk..

(Gives high five). Rage for sure. I'm gonna friend you on here kind sir...
