Cause of Tinnitus
Vestibular schwannoma
I had gamma knife on April 23. The doctor told me that I could resume normal activities the next day.

Well, I didn't do well with it. I was off balance, had double vision, EXTREME fatigue... like I had to sleep every 20 minutes. Then the vomiting started. I ended up in the ER because it was so severe. I was given steroids through a port in my arm and some to take at home.

After two weeks, I was well enough to return to work. I have only recently began to feel normal.

Doctor's say that it was due to inflammation/swelling. My experience is not normal but I want to share.

While I had the inflammation, I couldn't hear out of that ear. After taking the steroids, I feel like it's back to where it was pre-surgery.

I had a follow up MRI due to the complications and everything looks good. Now I just wait for my acoustic neuroma to shrink!

In July my hearing deteriorated... and it happened fast. The tinnitus is now worse and I have other weird stuff happening. Food tastes different, my tongue has a numb feeling to... yet it's not numb. I get a disoriented feeling quite often. Recently I've also been having very mild twitches in my face.

I regret having Gamma Knife. I wish I had just watched the acoustic neuroma and only had surgery when/if I absolutely had to. At least I would have have had my hearing for a while longer and when/if I did lose it, I wouldn't be dealing with these other side effects. I just hope it gets better and not worse.

How are you doing nowadays? How was your long term evolution after the surgery?

I am doing well. All of the side effects eventually went away. It did take a while. The one that lasted the longest was the face/eye twitching. My hearing even improved since then... I still have some hearing loss though. The tinnitus is quieter and I'm able to totally tune it out. Even when it's quiet around me, I only notice it here and there.

Hey. I know I'm replying to a thread that hasn't had activity for 2 years but hopefully you see this. How are you these days?

I had Gamma Knife 2 years ago and so far so good.
