Not really sure...Bad ear infection?
You're probably gonna just call me a brat for complaining. But I guess I'll just post this anyway because I have nothing better to do.

I was sitting at the dinner table just casually eating my food, being a good boy. My dad asked me a question. Due to me being hard of hearing, I said. "What?" my mom mocked me by saying "What? Huh? What? Huh?" Like a five-year-old. I asked why she can mock me but I can't mock her. She said "Shut up I'm tryin' to eat." and she called me an ass. I feel mocked by my entire family. :(

No, I'm not going to call you a brat. This seemed uncalled for and is just bullying, especially if it occurs regularly.
Chances are they considering it teasing, but if you don't like it, it's bullying. Sadly, I know all to well that parents can do this just as peers can.

Please know that you deserve sympathy for your condition and not this. Maybe they had a rough day or something.
I'd say, move on for now, but if this continues, try actively to improve the situation. Kindly ask them not to mock you when they do. Your question of why you can't mock them is actually interesting, but may be a little too cheeky :)
Try to get some more mutual understand of what you and them go through in your/their lives, that'll improve the relationship and usually gets rid of random meanness.

I don't understand why any mother would do that to their child. I feel sad to hear this. I hope they are just having a rough day and not something that happens all the time.

You are not a "brat" for complaining. Your family should be supportive. Now, it is common for young people to not pay attention to what "adults" say (based their behavior, I have to put "adults" in quotes). But, one would hope that a parent would be concerned for their child's well-being and think to ask if the reason that the child does not hear may not be that the child is ignoring them and may be an actual medical issue.

I feel mocked by my entire family. :(

I am so very sorry to hear that. As an adult, and a father, I apologize; we (parents) are not all like that. Unfortunately, many, many people are thoughtless and cruel. Many people, who are "old enough to know better" often do not behave in a way that is appropriate for their position in life.

For what it is worth, you have a community here that will not mock you, and will be supportive and sympathetic to your struggles. None of us would be here if we ourselves, or in some cases someone we love, was not suffering from tinnitus and possibly other hearing issues. We understand what you are going through. We understand the frustration with not being able to understand conversations, dialog in television or movies, and the stress and anxiety of never having a single moment of quiet. We understand.

Hang in there. It will get better.

Hi @RockyDoctah - I understand how reduced and hurt you must have felt when your mother replied in that manner and I trust she really did not mean it. Some times we adults have our own issues with which to deal and we may feel anxious and overwhelmed and it leaves us short on patience and although we shouldn't, we may lash out at those we love; try to forgive your mother and perhaps it would be helpful if you explain to her how hurtful what she said was. Hopefully she will never repeat her mistake. I see you have a lot to deal with at your age and I hope you have good and understanding friends. Remember, whenever you feel like venting and there is no one else whom you feel will lend themselves to you... we here will.

Take care and here's wishing you a pleasant tomorrow.

Are your parents fully aware of your condition? Have you seen an ENT and audiologist?
My mom thinks ringing in ears is "normal" so she doesn't want to hear anything about my T. So, I just shut up and cope. The ringing doesn't really bother me anymore. I managed to fall asleep in the morning and I had 2 dreams in a row, Lol. And yes, I have seen an ENT.

Hi again @RockyDoctah - I am sorry your mother feels that tinnitus is "normal" and wishes you don't speak of it. Could this be that she, too, experiences tinnitus? It might be. She should have listened and been more understanding of your difficulty but who can know the reason why she wasn't.

Unfortunately, many people can neither understand nor empathize with those suffering from tinnitus. It is impossible for others to even imagine the torment/anguish/anxiety/stress associated with this malady and I don't fault them for it since they are totally unfamiliar with the condition unless they are sufferers themselves. Who amongst us can completely understand the depth of suffering of another... being it physical or emotional? I remember years ago when my husband and I spent time assisting one of our elderly neighbors. When I would speak to her she would always ask me to stand on her right side since she was nearly incapable of hearing me with that ear. She had told me she had tinnitus as well --- a condition I was familiar with, of course, but at that point in time never experienced it so I could not thoroughly lend myself to her. Although we and our neighbor didn't discuss the subject, I had the feeling she had habituated long ago and carried on with her life and responsibilities and appeared reasonably happy. I am a person who needs to collect myself in a very quiet room when I am feeling stressed and I took my silence for granted and didn't think about this ever changing.

You are very fortunate that you have habituated and can fall asleep easily. You are young and have already mastered coping skills which have as yet alluded many members. Hopefully, most - if not all - will successfully reach the stage you have and go on to lead happy and productive lives such as those listed in "Success Stories" posted in this forum.

Take care and continue being a victor over your tinnitus.

Think I would wan't to play some tinnitus sounds at the dining table and see what kind of conversation they could hear...( I think I would get your folks come on here and read posts and hope we could help change their view and be more supportive)

Oh, i'm sorry to hear that. It is hard when you dont get emotionel support from the people who is supposed to have your back. Sending you a virtuel hug (and your mother a not so kind thought)

"Location: 'Murica" sounds about right. The vibe I get is deep south, am I way off?

Study hard, work hard in school, get a scholarship to a university in an awesome city and leave all this behind ;)
I am not southern. 'Murica just sounds funny.

It's not your fault that your parents mumble like idiots. "I can either learn to hear better, or you can save us both the trouble and SPEAK LOUDER!" That's something I wish I could say to a certain a-hole family member.

In the final analysis - we can amend only our own behavior, not that of others. Consider yourself very fortunate that you have become triumphant over your tinnitus. Take care and be well. :)

Doesn't sound like a mom to me. Ignore and distance yourself from people like that....
