- Cause of Tinnitus
- Ear injury caused by a Q-Tip
Hello everyone,
I have some breakthrough news to share of complete resolution of my pain hyperacusis at the current moment with a med I am newly taking to help me pass kidney stones.
I was using a Q-tip over two years ago and accidentally slipped and hit my eardrum. I did not rupture it but injured it and have scar tissue on it. PLEASE never use Q-tips. I use my pinky finger and toilet paper after a shower when the wax is easy to get, which is safe. I know I should not have used a Q-tip to begin with... my parents got them for my family so I grew up using them.
Anyhow, my hyperacusis and tinnitus was brought on by trauma to my inner ear, which everyone's experience may be different.
This is mine.
I've lost most of my hearing over the past two years in the same ear. The ringing has gotten very loud and has never gone away. The pain hyperacusis has been pretty severe the whole time. I have to wear Hi-Fidelity ear plugs in one ear called "Vibes," to protect it many times throughout the day. Sounds from the sink water running, flushing toilets, my wife talking, my baby crying, my dogs collars shaking, plates clinking, doing the dishes, my daughter playing with toys, the tv, the radio... all cause such pain and inflammation to my inner ear that I am in constant pain and in a constant state of guarding my ear.
It has ruined so much of my life. But I know some people have it worse and I am so sorry and pray for you, as I am a Christian and know how terrible hyperacusis is. To me I would rather keep my tinnitus and have my hyperacusis gone. It has been a torture.
So,
I got kidney stones 4 days ago which I went to the Emergency room for. Awful pain... but I was given meds to help pass them. I am taking something called "Flomax" - it is a prescription drug. It relaxes the smooth muscle in the body and opens things up inside. That is why it helps kidney stones to pass. But to my surprise... the pain I have from hyperacusis was COMPLETELY gone. 100%. 110%. I was going throughout my house clinking glasses, hitting metal on metal and glass on glass to create those sounds that would kill my ear with pain so badly and... no pain. There is a slight sensitivity with really bad sounds but I am telling you the inner ear inflammation, and FULLNESS that never goes away, and the awful gnawing drilling constant pain that creates stabbing pain with most noises... IS FULLY GONE.
I understand Flomax is a prescription drug... and it can create hypotension..
Has anyone else here experienced this? Maybe it will not work for everyone but this is my third day on Flomax out of 7 that I have to take it and my pain from hyperacusis is still fully gone. FULLY. I had to share this because this might mean there is hope for many of us. Maybe it works for those only with certain trauma to the ear?
I believe my ear gets very inflamed... and that this med opened up the inner ear to relieve pressure and that is what resolved the pain I was experiencing day in and day out.
I had to share this because we are in this together and this was life changing for me. I'm sorry I wrote so much, but at this moment my entire life has changed. If I can I am going to try to get this prescription for my hyperacusis from my doctor... If my hyperacusis comes back after my 7 days on Flomax. Which I am guessing it will...
Also... I am not taking ANY other meds... not even pain meds. I stopped taking my pain meds two days ago to make sure it was not the pain meds resolving this... but the Flomax. Which it is just the Flomax that has taken away the hyperacusis inflammation, fullness and pain.
So I know it is the Flomax. I still have slight sensitivity but HARDLY any sensitivity anymore.
Last thing, I know this is working for me right now... and I am so grateful... but just remember my hyperacusis was brought on by trauma to my eardrum... so this might only work for those who had trauma. But maybe not... maybe it could work for all of us. You never know.
So with that being said, I hope this can help someone out there possibly. I know how difficult this is. I believe in the Bible, and because of my hope in Christ it is the only reason I never committed suicide, and never will. He is my hope above all hopes, and makes it all worth suffering through. SO I had to share that the Bible says He is the only way to heaven, and I want YOU there too. I am not trying to start a war, but I at least wanted to share that.
God bless and love to you all... merry early Christmas to you all.
