My Posting Place

This just gave me an idea! I wonder whether undergoing a lobotomy might make one stop caring about the sound of tinnitus?!
Tentanda via (Latin for "the way must be tried")!
According to a tinnitus researcher on Reddit, no. The tinnitus latches itself into the brain after 5 months

Apparently lab rats that underwent audiatory lobotomy after 5 months still "displayed tinnitus symptoms".

I didn't think it would get rid of the sound. I was thinking more along the lines of habituation - not caring about the sound...
Well I don't think a lobotomy is gonna help that. If it did help with crapbituation, I guarantee you that tinnitus researchers would be focusing on that like a laser lol.

Fellas, I actually got it passed moderation. I suggest you look up "Jastreboff" on Urban Dictionary.

I noticed that there's interesting personality dynamics at play here on this site. It's always cool to know how users feel about others. So I was wondering, who do you like and dislike? Who do you thing are the most helpful people on the site?

Here's mine:

Favorite:
1) Contrast: Posts great memes and is a fun guy
2) Bill Bauer: Helpful posts and longest time ally on the site
3) MBH: Niceuser who I talk to every now and then.
4)Dpdx: Fellow fan of languages.
5) Champ: Likes my posting place, so that's pretty cool.

Most helpful:
1) Aaron Haynes: Posts extremely useful information in the research threads. Not overly-optimistic
2) Attheedgeofscience: Posts accurate information of a variety of treatments. Redpilled on habituation
3) Bill Bauer: Posts good stats. Redpilled on success stories.
4) Dr. Jay Hobbs: His videos are so awesome. Seriously check them out.
5) Linearb: was in the first Susan Shore trials.

Least favorite:
1) Chris Holland: Habituationposts to an extremely annoying amount and makes enemies with everyone.
2) Gl0w0ut: Knockoff threefirefour.
3) Bobbie7: Used to constantly pester me. She's mostly gone now.
4) Fishbone: Randomly comments against me but can't hold up in an argument.
5) Kate Winstol: Only had a one-time brush with this guy but it was bad enough for him to make the list.

@Karen and @billie48 are so kind and warm, never argue with anyone and aren't arrogant. Michael Leigh, Chris Holland are unfortunately obnoxious for being so know-it-all.
I've had a brush-in with both of the people you mentioned, and even in argument they're still very nice. I can see why Karen is a mod and Billie is a site ambassador.

Can I please get a source on this?

Cure hearing loss and we'll see an improvement in tinnitus, if the brain is able to faulty wire it self why can't it undo faulty wiring?

I feel like that dumb "Reddit cure" made my problems even worse... I feel so stupid for falling for it a week ago but I had legit lost my mind at that point and was desperate to try anything.

I feel like that amount of noise also can't be good for you, even though you're just thumping your head... But it feels so intensified when you cover your ears.

It seems like this would be the case. Perhaps even without that as it can be relieved with dedicated brain retraining daily over the course of months. We all have tinnitus so it's hard to imagine it going away, but it's far more common than not. Even for long lasting tinnitus.

Just because a group of scientists could not make it go away using a specific technique after 5 months does not necessarily say tinnitus is stuck. It may very well indicate that their ablation technique is primitive or flawed. I've heard way too many stories going both ways to think it can't be dealt with. I certainly went from no tinnitus to having tinnitus. My brain sure changed for that. I've seen no comprehensive explanation as to why our brain can't go the other way. Mostly conjecture.

@threefirefour

@Champ chronic phantom pain has similar pathways as tinnitus and pain can resolve.

We have hope.

@annV

According to newer researcher tinnitus is not the phantom pain from damaged hair cells/nerve fibers but rather the auditory part of the brain amplying it's internal volume to pick up on damaged frequencies and as a result it causes hyper neuronal activity in various regions of the brain which we can hear. (tinnitus) It also results in undamaged higher frequencies being amplified as well making them sound extra ordinarily loud. (hyperacusis)
