My Pulsatile Tinnitus Goes Away When I Hold My Breath. Does This Happen to Anyone Else?

I have something similar, when I yawn it goes away and that's contrary to what I read in that when most of tinnitus sufferers yawn it gets louder.

For me, my tinnitus calms down/stops when I intentionally calm my heart rate. So paced breathing, holding my breath, etc. Though after I stop holding my breath, my heart speeds up and the tinnitus roars for a few seconds before going to baseline. I assume it's something similar to that for most of us. Though not all of us.

Have you had an ultra sound on your carotid artery? A partial blockage can cause tinnitus that you describe.

As a normally very anxious person who diagnosis herself often, that's going to keep me paranoid.:cautious:

Mm. Last I heard, it's not uncommon. However, there are other symptoms that come with it being partially or even fully blocked and I have none. The only one I show is the pulsing, which comes and goes and is never constant; in fact weak and non-existent for the most part. That and the fact that it gets quieter and better every month.
Other than that, I do get dizzy spells but that's because of my congestion from a bad cold and they're very far apart when it happens.

I have been checked but no tests have been run as of yet. I'm still waiting on further referral after seeing the audiologist. So I shall see..

I would suspect if you're referred to an ENT they might order the test. It's highly unlikely that a physical problem will be found but it still should be ruled out. Don't stress, it's a long shot and the good news would be it's a problem that can be easily fixed.

Unlikely. She only focused on my regular tinnitus because I have both, but she didn't see the pulsatile tinnitus to be a concern (and I don't think she remembered that I had it). But I will bring it up at my next referral. ^^
I'm not concerned about it though~

I have PT too, but mostly when I'm lying down.

I can stop it when I clench my teeth , I think this is quite a common way of being able to stop it.

But what I'm curious to know if this is related to some jaw issue ...?

I am wondering if you can hold your breathe and calm the PT down, have you tried the Valsalva Maneuver. If it works if may be a clue to help in the diagnoses. I also have PT and T and Hissing that comes from the back of my neck or behind the ears.
My PT and T calmed down after I went to a Atlas Chiropractor. I also did a 6 day step down pkg of steroids that helped with the PT and T.
I am now looking for clues for the hissing at the back of my neck.
