Tinnitus Since
07/2010
Hello everyone. I've had tinnitus 3 years now and it has changed a little since then. However a week ago my T changed quite significantly. Earlier last week I was at ENT physicians office. Physician cleaned my left ear with a small 'vacuum cleaner'. It felt very uncomfortable and it was loud but it didn't hurt. She said I had very little earwax in my both ears but wanted to make sure she can see clearly into my ears. I was bit shocked how loud that ear cleaner thing was but I was fine rest of the day. However next morning I noticed my T had changed but I immediately thought it was just temporary...well I was wrong. How my T was changed? Well now my T is only in my left ear and it is much louder than before but at the same time I can't hear it in my right ear anymore! I'm not sure if that ear cleaning has anything to do with this. Lately I've been also masking my tinnitus much more often than before.

I am confused. I honestly feel like I've swapped my tinnitus with someone else. This 'new' tinnitus is so different.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? My T spikes usually last 1-2 days and this feels different.

I'm new so I'm not sure I would be able to direct you to the answer your looking for. I will say that I've had T in my right ear and in my head sometimes. I have a faint chiming sound in my left now. It started very loudly (high pitched sound) in the beginning but I have noticed that it's is easing up a great deal. I've had a few spikes due to an especially loud day. Or being overly stressed out or anxious. I believe many here have experienced T in their ears alternately and at varying types of sounds and levels. I hope someone can give you better answers soon.

Thank you for reply Lulubug69.

I have also noticed that sometimes my tinnitus is in my ears and sometimes in my head. At the moment it's in my left ear and hasn't changed in a week which is very unusual. It almost feels like the sound is now coming outside my ear.

Maybe I never had 'real tinnitus' in my right ear and it was just an auditory hallucination caused by ringing in my left ear. Maybe my brain tried to balance out sounds in my ears and created tinnitus sound in my healthy ear. :dunno:
I hope it never comes back in my right ear.

Hello my name is Sara. I have had T for the past 3 years. 2.5 years was so mild I couldn't even notice it. But since 4 months ago it for worse to the point that it affected my sleep, my mood , my concentration and my life. I am trying to battle it every day. Some times it's good and sometimes it's bad and sometime it's just terrible that makes me cry. For me too it does feel like it's coming from my ears or head some times. It's weird. It changes all the time. I would think those suction things would be quiet since its for our ears lol but I have had spikes before where it goes down the next day. But right now it's been around 5 days with on and off times that T is at its worst and then not so bad. All you have to do just wait it out and try not to go mad over it. I am hoping mine subsides soon. I hope yours does as well.

Mine is not only coming from my ears it's definitely coming from my head. If I feel the areas above my ears and push them the ringing becomes even louder. I also feel like it is running all the way round the back of my head/neck. It's like my head is a pressure cooker and the tinnitus the steam. Sleeping is a nightmare as whatever way I put my scalp in the pillow it exacerbates the sounds. Feels like brain or nerve damage has occurred as well as ear damage
