Cause of Tinnitus
very bad congestion?/noise?/anxiety? no clue
I said I'd stay away but I couldn't - just wanted to share my story with you even if it's only 2 days now that I have been tinnitus free.

LONG POST INCOMING (probably going to be all over the place):

My first onset of tinnitus was 2 months ago. I was going through the worst cold of my life that lasted around 3-4 weeks. During day 14-15 of my cold I went to a club where the music was kind of loud, stayed there around 2-3 hours with some breaks in between. After we left I noticed loud ringing in my left ear but thought nothing of it and told myself it will go away. I wοke up the next day and the first thing I notice is that the ringing is still there, louder than everything. I get into panic mode and rush to an ENT. I was told I had really bad congestion and Otitis Media in my left ear. I was prescribed an antihistamine and a nasal spray. Next day my ringing was reduced to 2 out of 7-8. I thought to myself it will go away eventually.

Two weeks later I was done with my meds and my cold seemed to have cleared up. Tinnitus was still present though and I didn't really feel like there was an improvement. I don't know when exactly but after a while I noticed that I had ringing in my right ear as well, louder than my left or felt that way at least. That's when all the research I did on the internet came to haunt me. Things saying like it's permanent, it gets worse and stuff like that really got to me and I got even more depressed than I normally am. Some days later I noticed my tinnitus in my left ear reduced in volume quite a bit but my right was still ringing without any reduction at all.

40 days in and I was getting a bit of silence after showers and when waking up. Ringing in my left ear had gone down to 95-99% quiet now, right ear didn't seem to change that much and even if it did I told myself I was just imagining it. I started to have popping sensations in my right ear even with the tiniest movement, stabbing pain and fullness that made me constantly pop my ears by opening my mouth or moving my muscles around that area. Popping and cracking was more noticeable in my right ear same as my tinnitus. There were days where I'd compulsively move my muscles and crack/pop my ears up to 300-400 times because it felt like I was getting mild relief from fullness and ear pressure, that was something that bothered me more than the tinnitus lately.

Fast forward to now my tinnitus has been dying the past week. The past few days I have used Tinnitus Mix by @R. David Case. I don't know if my tinnitus would have gone away either way but after listening to the Tinnitus Mix for 1 night I woke up without ringing, just very mild hissing in my right ear that is in no way noticeable without me plugging my ears and trying hard to listen for something even in dead quiet rooms. After listening to the Tinnitus Mix a few more times even that hissing is dying now. I think that's the same way my left ear was before getting rid of tinnitus completely. I don't even know if what I've got left is tinnitus. It doesn't bother me (I can't hear it anymore) and I don't know if I had it before because I never tried to check 24/7 for sounds in my head/ears.

As for my feeling of ear fullness and the popping those are going away as well, it's like 10% in my left ear and around 30-40% in my right ear.

My best guess to what caused my tinnitus (due to fitting the timeframe that I read mostly) would be ETD/fluid being trapped in there after my cold that is now going away finally. That or the Tinnitus Mix. Maybe both. I don't really know.

Thing's I'd like to point out is that I know that my tinnitus was mild compared to a lot of people in here but still me being somewhat neurotic and an anxious person it really wasn't that hard to send me towards a downward spiral for a while. I've read horror stories that really made me feel bad and depressed, I started having a negative reaction to everyday sounds for a while that in no way did I have before reading about hyperacusis and the worst part was that I couldn't enjoy music anymore because I thought that I'll be doing more harm to my ears. What helped me cope was success stories and reading the threads about the new treatments and on my most anxious times the use of benzos to calm me down and help me sleep.

My best piece of advice to mild tinnitus sufferers is to not spend too much time on this great forum because that made me much more aware of my tinnitus.

I'm in no way saying that I'm 100% cured and that tinnitus can't come back but I'm actually enjoying music again and I'm feeling happy. Hope I'm not jinxing myself by posting this.

Lastly I'd like to say that more people should give Tinnitus Mix a try. No need for headphones if you have decent speakers. At least that's what I did.

@pewpew I believe you 100%.

You are also showing that this may be an amazing early intervention.

@R. David Case it's your time to shine fren.

Hey that is so awesome to hear !! I am remaining optimistic about my situation after reading your story ! It's cool to see people working together and sharing tips to manage or get rid of it.

I'm just getting over ETD/cold and my tinnitus had slowed down as my right ear has cleared. It's gone today so hoping it won't resurface. I'm feeling optimistic.

Hi!

So happy yours went away @pewpew.

I'm on about day 8 of my tinnitus increasingly quieting. I had it for about 2 months and then I started a nasal spray for ETD and sinusitis. It has mostly cleared up now and my tinnitus is about a 1.5/10. It barely bothers me, even in quiet rooms. Every day it's quieter. I'm optimistic it will go away in the next couple weeks or month. I am also staying away from alcohol and dairy since these things seem to create some congestion. I think food allergies may have started the whole thing to begin with. Fingers crossed!
