Hello All,
Some background:
Age: 33
First T experience age: 24
Tinnitus: High Frequency +- 5000hz
Other highlilghts:
He checked it and said all was OK, the problem persisted, went to an ENT and he said the same.
His hypothesis was - as some point I injured my ear drum (with a cotton bud) and as the membrane healed it stiffened up causing the ear drum not to vibrate the way it should and the result was minor hearing loss. At that point I was fed up and learned to live with it. Not long after that the dreadful T started in my right ear, same ear with hearing loss. I was absolutely freaked out and felt like jumping of a bridge. Went to the DOC, ENT etc and they all said everything was ok and that I will have to live with the ringing. One doctor put me on 120mg of prednisone per day over 5 days along with texa and an antibiotic. The ringing subsided and the hearing improved but it was never completely fixed. As usual there was a financial struggle and I just couldnt afford to take the matter further so I learned to live with it. Every year, once a year I would have to go on steroids and antibiotics and my ear felt "ok".
In 2010 I had a bad episode, fullness in the same ear, hearing was down to 40% and the tinnitus was terrible then the last draw was vertigo - I was taken to hospital, another ENT said I had lots of fluid in my middle ear due to ETD and the vertigo was caused because of an inner ear Herpes Virus. I went on Prednisone, Augmenten both orally and drips as well as Zelitrex. Within 3 days my ear started to clear up, my balance was restored and I was doing ok but I was frustrated as I still had terrible fullness and tinnitus. So I got a netipot and decided to push the saline solution up my ET, the left ear cleared but the solution remained in the right ear, full force... My wife was just taking me back to the hospital and as I approached casualty my ear cleared, the ringing subsided and I felt good. We we made a turn and went home, continued with steroids, nasal spray and allecet and I was fine in about a week. But the tinnitus would always worsen as my ears cleared, pushing a bit of saline solution through my ET always helped but I was always scared to do this so eventually I stopped and dealt with the T.
Current Experience:
Just over 2 months ago I picked up the flu virus, ETD was terrible and pressure was not been equalised. No fluid build up. Once again right ear. ENT recommended a GROMMET... my gut said NO but my head was playing games with me after a few re-schedules I got the grommet done... WORST MOVE EVER. After the grommet insertion I started to get different pitches of T as well hyperacusis and all sorts of other noises like "fans" blowing in my ear. Not to mention terrible autophony After 6 weeks I decided to remove the grommet as I also somehow contracted glandular fever Its now been 3 weeks since the removal and the T is terrible and intrusive. My hearing is dulled in my right ear and I now have severe anxiety and stress. According to the ENT the first layer of skin has formed over the hole, he says it now needs to thicken up. He has asked me to give it time to heal, once healed he is confident my T will reduce to what I was used too... I just pray this is the case, this is driving me nuts and has taken over my life.
I am very close to going back to my old method of pushing the saline solution up my ET but I am worried I may rupture the healing tissue. So I have decided to give it a little more time. Once the ear drum has completely healed I will used the neti pot, thats the only thing that seems to make the T subside.
At this point my ET in my right ear works but my ear makes this sticky noise as it clears, my ear drum is badly retracted as the hole is healing. My left ear clears with one crisp click. I am am sick and tired of meds and even natural remedies. I am now on Ginko Biloba and Omega 3. I take one texa a day. I have mild hypertension 140/100, I take prexum plus for this and Zuvamor for cholestrol. I dont smoke, drink, club etc... Every now and then I take Brazepam 6mg - benzodiazepine. Helps me relax.
Could I be missing something?
