Hey everyone new to this forum-but certainly not new to "T". Here's my story: when I was a child I had really bad hearing, ear infections, ear surgeries, etc. I had a total of 3 ear surgeries. Well all of these things caused tinnitus. But I only heard it at night-and not every night. It would have to be really quiet, and even then not every time. So I've had it off and on for 20+ years now. Over the past 2 years though it's gotten worse. I hear every night now, and several times throughout the day. I'm thinking about getting hearing aids (I know I need them-at least in my left ear, which is where I'd say 95% of my tinnitus occurs in). Glad I found this forum!

James,

Welcome to the forum, I'm new as well too, but also new to T. I wish you luck with things, and hope that you find the comfort you need! The best thing I've realized is to have a good support group and people that understand what you're going through to talk to, that's what makes this place so comforting. I don't have much advice to add other than not to spend too much time concentrating on it or roaming through the forum, I've noticed with my constant T that the more I think about it, the more distracting it becomes!

Best wishes,

Garrett

Hi

I have had T since I was 12. Most of my life was not seriously affected by it. Too busy to notice or pay attention.
About 15 years ago my hearing was failing and the T was increasing. Now I have chronic T which at times drives me simply mad. I attempted suicide once and have been under care from psychologist on out-patient basis. I am now stable but suffer badly from severe head aches. Exhaustion is my biggest problem.

Welcome to the forum, James. If your T is bothering you at night, you may want to consider masking it. Find some soothing sounds/music which can mask your T. A sound machine at bed side will be helpful. Youtube has many such tinnitus masking sounds. Just search it and you will have many options to choose from. If you have smart phone, there should be Apps for sounds. If you use a PC, consider this free sound generator called 'aire freshener'. It has many sounds to choose from and it is free. I also used ipod download with nature sounds to give me mobile masking a few years back. You can also do a search of masking on TT and should give you many suggestions.
