Hello,

I am wondering if someone from this forum has taken Myonal (a muscle relaxant) and experienced any effects on his/her tinnitus?

Thank you.

Warm regards,
Albert

I took a course of it nearly 3 years ago. But it did nothing for me in terms of tinnitus, or any other kind of discernible physiological effect.
The doctor thought my tinnitus might have been a result of cervical spondylosis, which can trigger it and eperisone is supposedly able to treat. The unnecessary MRI he ordered certainly helped ruin my life re acoustic trauma, worse T, vertigo, hyperacusis but that's another story…

Thank you for your reply, @Gman.

The ENT doctor prescribed me Myonal to hopefully help my ear muscles relax a bit. I think he suspects that I have tonic tensor tympani syndrome (TTTS). It's been three weeks since my hearing is at times distorted.

Also, I have read a couple of times here in the forum that MRI has taken a toll on their tinnitus. I guess I would need to avoid it, unless really, really needed.

I hope that your symptoms would eventually fade. I am a year into tinnitus brought about by commulative noise exposure and significantly exacerbated by an ear infection.

From my experience, Myonal/eperisone seemed very safe and I had no side effects. So it's possible that it would be the same for you. I'd be very interested to know if it helps you.

TTTS can dissipate over time if you can avoid overly loud situations or even it just goes away by itself. But it can come back too. It's been that way for me, it comes and goes. The fluttering kind of TTTS is just an annoyance really. I have had a cramping type one that can go for hours or days as well, which was bad for well over a year and I still occasionally get.
Is the hearing distortion you mention autophony, where you can hear your own voice like your ear is blocked or something else?

For the fluttering kind, I find if I gently kind of do a circle around the outside of my ear hole with my little finger, being careful not to create any suction, it will stop it for a period of time.

My hearing distortion is sort of whistling/broken speaker/high-pitched tone mostly on reverberating sounds from running water, television, AC, car engines.
I have no autophony - but some four weeks ago, which "coincided" with my hearing distortion, I intermittently experienced ear fullness and echoing on my right ear when I speak. I think it is a symptom of patulous eustachian tube, which may or may not be contributing to my new symptom.

My ENT doctor has asked me to go to a TMJ specialist as my audiogram and speech discrimination test are unremarkable. I can hear a sound on certain jaw and neck positions. So I think my tinnitus is also somatic. My cervical spine x-ray revealed some calcification and an osteophyte.

I'll let you know if I would feel something on Myonal. I really thank you for sharing your experience on it.

As for the TTTS, some time April, I experienced a sudden, quick throbbing on my right ear that I freaked out. Reading some articles on the internet pointed me to tensor tympani and myoclonus. I am trying my best to relax as I have learned that anxiety can play are role in the development of TTTS.

I just hope that our symptoms would improve soon.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Albert
