Nasonex-Like Nasal Spray, Could It Worsen Tinnitus?

Found this on the web

Doctor : Hi
Doctor : How can i help you?
User : Why does Sinus ear Pressure cause temporary tinnitus ?
Doctor : pressure difference across the tympani membrane causes abnormal stimulation of the hair cells in the inner ear causing tinnitus
User : Oh . I Went to my ent specialist because i have ear pressure. and He said I have sinus ear pressure. And now i have tinnitus. HE prescribed Fluticasonenasal spray to use for a month. When will it go away?
Doctor : once the inflammation reduces by the use of the nasal spray the pressure change also gets corrected and tinnitus also disappears

No idea how legit it is... But the reactive T here seems so connected with the pressure feeling. I hope it goes away.

I do believe that the reactive T and the pressure feeling is connected indeed. When my T goes away, so does the fullness. When it does, it kinda feels like someone slapping my ears. However, for me I do not believe its caused by ETD or anything regarding pressure within the middle ear. I believe in my case its caused by muscles. Primarily
tension to auricularis superior, auricularis anterior and the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

I do find it very interesting though, that it seems like you got this reactive T and fullness from using a nasal spray?
Could it be that you were kind of monitoring your T quite hard for a while when using that spray? Just curious :)

Nope, no monitoring at all. It is super clear, and a very real, strong pressure feeling

And you were not under a lot of stress, anxious etc?
Its very interesting if you got this reactive T and sensation of fullness from using a nasal spray.
I would think it will pass pretty quick though..

Please keep me updated if you figure out the exact mechanism of this.

It' nothing like that. It is very distinct and different from my normal T. My hearing is dulled and i have a strong pressure feeling.

Btw, it' not like sound makes it go higher a little later or something. It's like an off/on switch

Yeah, I think I know exactly what you mean. I just find it very interesting that it appeared after using a nasal spray.

I would think that a nasal spray would help open up your eustachian tubes, and your nose and maybe your sinuses as well and I cant see why that would add a sensation of fullness to the ear and a new reactive T, unless your tubes got clogged at the moment you inhaled it. I have no idea, but its very interesting indeed.

Yeah it's weird. I now noticed that the stronger i feel the pressure, the worse is this reactive ringing.

I did a neti pot session now, maybe i'll feel better in the morning. hope so!

Yeah, it would guess it will pass pretty quick. Please let me know if the neti pot session has some effect on it :)
Im still trying to understand why on earth that happened.

How long did it take from the time you inhaled it and until it appeared?

The only thing I can think of is that you made a really hard movement with your neck while inhaling..

@Erlend does your hearing change when you have the spasms in the ear?

For the past week, I've been having a sensation of fullness in my right ear only... +++ at work, but when outside, it goes away...no changes on the tinnitus and my hearing is the same...

Could it be fluid in the ET? Sometimes my right side becomes red and sensitive when I touch it...

"eksem" (enzema?") dno the english word.

i have it in the outer ear and the ear drum, she said.

got some ear drops. makes sense that its the eardrum, becaise of how it follows sound 100%

Yeah, sounds like that could be the cause.. The ear drops will probably take care of it then.. I think that eczema can flare up if being stressed as well..

eczema!!

Be careful with eardrops!! we've had cases here where eardrops caused T!!

@Erlend as for me, I cleared my right nostril yesterday by blowing my nose and my right ear is almost 100% cleared!!!

Keep us posted. Sometimes it can get worse before it gets better. Is it making your T worse, or is it dulled hearing?

i meant worse compared to when i woke up.

still a lot better than yesterday.

the pressure feeling and dulled hearing has decreased, and so has the new tinnitus. but it's still there. but when i see improvement this quick, i believe it will resolve
