Hello all,

I need some advice.

So my girlfriend just had the sinus infection and I had to drive her to the emergency clinic two times because she vomitted from all the mucous. It really was bad but I didn't seem to catch it myself. However, as she more or less recovered I began to get a bit ill and became stuffy/congested in my nose and just really tired. It didn't seem that bad though. I used decongestion nasal spray and nasal rinse. The last days I haven't really felt congested. Airways was good and I kept blowing out yellow mucous.

Then yesterday I began to feel clogged in my ear, my hearing is muffled and the Tinnitus is sky high. Although I can equalize pressure in the clogged ear, it still feels clogged and muffled. Like there is water inside the ear. It's as it won't REALLY equalize the pressure although the airways seem untroubled. It keep feeling weird.

I'm really scared. The tinnitus is unbearable now.

I'm afraid that I have fluid in the inner ear. Maybe I was too harsh with the nasal rinse and pressed it out in the ear?

Can you have a clogged ear from a cold even though you seem to breathe fine through the nose?

If there is fluid inside, will it subside?

Can the pressure in the ear be out of balance caused by the cold?

I'm really desperate for some advice...

I can't live with this for much longer. It's straight out torture...

@bellafjelle Have you visited an ENT? It can be from ear infection which have to be prevented / treated ASAP.

I called two ENTs. They don't count it as an acute situation since I don't experience pain or fever. The nearest appointment I could get was the 12th of january. I even just called the emergency clinic who said the same. I do however have an appointment with my GP tomorrow.

@bellafjelle In this case i would go private and pay for a visit to get any help fast, it's a shame that we have to do this even if we pay for our health insurance but at least in my country when you have something more than a fever it's the only way to don't make things worse :<

GP is a good option, he can at least check your ear for any infection symptoms. But of course ENT would be better.

If it is that bad, then possibly go see a dr. It can take a bit of time for ear problems to come about and it can also take some time for them to go away (even with meds).

@bellafjelle ,
Take pain relief to ease ear pressure pain and sinus pain.
Try Sudafed and also Steam inhalation .
Be kind to your self and lots of rest and hot drinks etc.
See your doctor also to get checked.
Love glynis

Thank you all. Very kind of you.

I'll follow the advice.

What about the possible fluid? Does anyone have any experience with that?

It's possible you have fluid behind the eardrum that will muffle hearing and make T seem worse. You should see an ENT who can examine you and confirm.

Stress will spike T so try not to worry or focus on it. These things usually clear but it takes time. You need to be patient whilst you are waiting for ENT. Can your GP prescribe an otovent balloon?

Is it safe to use a otovent ballon? Because I could just buy it the pharmacy.

So my GP just confirmed fluid in the middle ear on both sides and prescribed me Avamys. Will this actually potentially help?

And I have an appointment with an ENT in 8 days.

Fluid in the middle ear never helped anyone, so getting rid of it should help. It'll restore ossicular mobility and some hearing, which can have a positive impact on T.
