Hello all my name is Thomas. I am 22 years old.

I've had ringing in my ears for several years (no exact date or cause of occurrence - it seems like it was always just there). There is always a static-ey ringing that happens all the time. But sometimes there is also a tonal rhytm that occurs in my left ear. This rhythm is always the same, and is a more "distinct" sound than the constant static. Sometimes there is a completely different pitch in my right ear that can occur (at the same time as the other tone in my left ear).

Whenever I turn my neck to either side, bite down hard, or move my jaw forward, the ringing/static gets louder. My jaw (left side) kind of hurts when I push it forward far (TMJ?). Moving my jaw far forward is the only time my jaw will hurt. Biting and chewing is always fine.

I just got my braces off, and I want to say that during the time I had braces/since I got them off, I noticed the ringing was louder. I am not sure if it actually got louder, but I just noticed it more. I 100% had ringing before braces.

Things are pretty frustrating especially when 3 different pitches/tones are going off. In a quiet setting things get unmanageable. I saw an ENT recently and they said there is nothing I could really do besides manager external noise and do CBT to manage it.

I am wondering what else I can do to make things manageable.
Could there been an issue with my jaw that causes this? I have always been able to click my jaw (pop back and forth) before and after braces so maybe there is an issue here? Is dentistry an option? Who would I see?

I would appreciate any response. Thank you.

@thomas18 ,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
Your dentist can make you a mouth guard to wear over your lower teeth and xray your jaw etc.
Love glynis
