Need to Go to the Dentist!

There are electric dental Handpieces now. Dentist have been using them for the last ten years. They run very quiet.
If you can afford it, you can have your teeth worked on under sedation at a hospital. There are thousands of Dental patients who don't have tinnitus that fear Dentists, or who are bed ridden, that have their teeth worked on this way every day. Ask your Dentist, they will try their best to accommodate your needs. For most of us, we barely can afford a Dentist, and most Dentists can't afford electric Handpieces. If we don't want to loose our teeth, going to Dentist, is what we have to do. I hope you can find the courage to go.

Hello !

Thank you for the information !

I can check with some Dentists if they use this kind of materials...

But it is much more expensive than regular ones ?

For now I haven't contacted anyone yet... :(

Hello !

Regarding the TMJ, what do you do to help you fix it ?

I know some Chiropractors can help right ?
@Christophe_85

Hi!

I have a mouthguard that I wear when it acts up and I use warm compresses to soothe the ache in my left jaw. Just so happens that my T is exclusive to my left ear. Also, I eat only soft foods when it is bad, to rest the jaw.

Truth be known I didn't know what it was at first. I would wake up with a sore jaw and I would have a clicking noise in my jaw when I chewed. My dentist checked me over, saw that my back teeth were wore down some and said it was due to grinding my teeth while I slept, I had no idea. She diagnosed me with the TMJ.

Is there a fix, I don't believe so, not in my case anyway. It comes and goes and during moments of stress it escalades pretty badly.

I have no idea about Chiropractors, Christophe, but it could not hurt to see one for a consult. Perhaps discuss this with your Md or ENT.

@Christophe_85 - I went to my primary dentist for the 1st time since getting tinnitus, as I've been afraid of making tinnitus worse with the ultrasonic noise. Before I set up the routine cleaning appointment, I phoned up the receptionist about my tinnitus situation and wanting to avoid the ultrasonic scaler at all costs. That was the only way I was making this appointment. She was very nice and said no problem, so I booked an appointment for today. Upon my arrival there this morning, I reminded everybody that worked in the office of my tinnitus and ultrasonic avoidance and the staff was very understanding and reassured me it would be no problem. After talking to my dentist about my situation, he mentioned that his dad and uncle both have meniere's disease and he's concerned that he might get it at some point too. But to the greater point, he was extremely understanding of my situation and the manual cleaning took an additional 10 minutes.

Regarding TMJ - I have a neuromuscular dentist for TMJ. I have an orthotic device I wear 24/7 for a total of 9 months. It's been 2 months since I've had it and I don't know that's helping or my mental state has much improved. There's also TMJ massages/exercises you can do but there's no quick fix for TMJ. Actually, now that I think it about, my dentist this morning said the orthotic sometimes works, a lot of times doesn't, and rarely makes the TMJ worse.

Let me know if you want me pass on the TMJ exercises I was given.

Hello !

Thank you for your very positive message ! I am very happy that it went all good for you ! :)

And fortunatly some people (professional) understand our condition !

I am in contact with a clinic who does laser Dentist work... But I will take an appointment next week... I will see the main Dentist and discuss with him about my fears and this new method...

For the Jaws I went to a physiotherapist specialized in TMJ troubles and she gave me some exercices to do, which I try to do almost every day ! ;)

All the Best !

Hello !

Yes it definitely helps jaw eating soft food !

Apparently I also grind my teeth during the night and they made me a special mouthgard as well, but I really don't like using it ! :(

I read that Chiropractor can help ! I want to try it but not right now...

First this is the Dentist thing which is very important !!! :D

And how are you these days ??? :)

All the Best !

Christophe

@Karl28 - about 30 minutes. teeth were in good shape heading in though. i've made sure to floss, mouthwash, and brush at least twice a day since getting tinnitus to help reduce the amount of time needed in the dentist chair.

Well tomorrow I have my appointment, apparently I have many things to do... :(

@Christophe_85
I have been to the dentist many times since I first got tinnitus 22 years ago. I have root canal work extractions, fillings and never had a problem with them making my tinnitus or hyperacus (when I had H) worse. It is fear, stress and anxiety which reinforces the belief that dental procedures will cause problems when the real probem is ourselves!

Calm down and try not to worry.

Michael

@Christophe_85 ,
Good luck tomorrow at the dentist, if you have treatment on your lower jaw then you can use your hand
to support your jaw if needed.
I had a big procedure done over a year ago and went on fine so try not to worry ,
please let us know how you went on or by pm .

I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well Christophe. In future try to get regular check-ups at the dentist so your teeth and gums are been well looked after. As you know failure to do this can mean tooth extractions and gum problems. I would advise that you invest in a Waterpik. It is like miniture high-pressure hose that cleans out plaque between the teeth. A wonderful tool and well worth the investment. I use an electric tooth-brush, Waterpik and also use Dentek triple clean floss picks. I have no more plaque problems and have healthy gums.

Take care and best of luck at the dentist.

Dear Christophe,

It would be a good idea to start taking action now by using an electric tooth-brush, Waterpik (water flosser) and Dentek picks that I mentioned. Here is a short video of the Waterpik: https://www.waterpik.co.uk/oral-health/why-waterpik/

All the best

Stay optimistic Christophe! Speaking with @Bill Bauer, who has had work done with a laser drill, it is a lot quieter procedure than the regular drill. If the regular drill is used please be sure to use the 5 seconds on and 10 seconds off rule if possible. If it gets too loud, put your hand up for a break and keep your neck straight in the chair.

Another note, if possible please ask them to not use the ultrasonic cleaner / water pick cleaner on you. This is the device that sounds like computer noises when it hits your teeth. Manual cleanings are quieter and more effective are removing plaque on teeth from what I have been told by a dentist.

You will be fine Christophe! I know it is hard to think that way, but try to relax if you can and know that everything will be alright.

Jack

So I had the first appointment this morning with the Dentist... I have a second one next Monday and after it should be enough (I hope)...

Well the Dentist used a drill which was very loud and high-pitched at times... So my left ear seems to have a spike now... :(

Do you think it will get down at least a bit in the week ?

Also the fact that I needed to keep my mouth open and my Jaws were so tight ! I have lots of tensions in my Jaws, so clearly it didn't help !

Well, tomorrow I have the second appointment, I really hope it will be less loud with the very high-pitched drill !

I got a cavity filled last week, it had no effect on my tinnitus. I wish you luck. (P.S Don't where earplugs/headphones/earmuffs, it will be louder due to the occlusion effect.)

Thank you for your message...

I went on Monday, was not too loud but damnit I still have pain in my tooth when eating... I don't think this is normal... I will call them and I hope the Dentist did his job well !

Was your T due to spike or anxiety? And did it go away yet? Hope you are better now.

I have a bit of pain from my last filling too, I don't even know if that's normal but I'm not going back for more drilling unless I really have to lol

It was increased by noise high-pitched sounds and also my Jaw which is always very tight, and I had to keep it open for long minutes... Really didn't help !

But tomorrow I need to go back (again) because it is too painful, I really hope he didn't make a mistake and will not need to do it again !

I am living a very difficult week... Real nightmare !

I have suicidal thoughts, I haven't had these since long time...

Sorry for my negativity and thank you for your kindness...

2 appointments at the Dentist and almost everything I did to cope better with this "Life" is gone !

Tomorrow I have to go back to fix something, pain in my tooth... I "feel" he just made a mistake during the process but let's see...
