Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic Trauma from Microsuction
Since getting tinnitus/hyperacusis following a microsuction procedure in 2016 my ears are so fragile and react to the slightest noise. In 3 years since the onset both my hearing and my tinnitus loudness has worsened.

Yesterday whilst at a friend's house her pet bird tweeted loudly (very high pitched) and immediately I experienced loud fleeting tinnitus in my left ear. This lasted maybe 10-15 seconds. Straight after this I started to get burning in my ear, twitching and numbness in my face and a pain in my head. The bird was at least 5-10 metres away from me when it tweeted! How can this cause such havoc with my ears and central nervous system?

Today I've had extra loud buzzing in my ear and head, but also cold, numbness and tingling in my face along with some pains in my forehead. I'm guessing this is related to nerve damage but how can such a minor incident cause all of this?

After the microsuction caused acoustic shock/trauma in 2016 I had extreme pain and burning in my ears, face, neck and shoulders. I'm now 3 years down the line and although the hyperacusis is not as painful, it's clear my ears can't cope with many everyday noises.

At least you recognize the problem is cochlear neuropathy.

No one can help you sadly, yet.

I experienced this, literally from Nov2017-Jan 2018 before I was even on the forum, it went into remission which confused me.

I know your pain, it's something no one wants to talk about.

Help is on the way from the likes of Frequency Therapeutics, hopefully!!
Decibel Therapeutics and Otonomy are where it's at since they are addressing synapse and nerve damage in the cochlea.

Why do some people with noxacusis get better while others get worse, and some stay the same for 15-20 years?

Why is this not being researched actively as if humanity depended on it?

Blue28 my ears can't cope with everyday noise either. Nearly 2 years into this. I have to wear musician's earplugs 12 hours a day. I take them out a few hours before bedtime. Your ears need rest like mine. Hope you feel better.

@Blue28 , how do you feel now? I found this forum looking for what is going on with me and I am so desperate. I had microsuction on right ear done on 01.06.2021, not beacuse of ear wax removal, but I had a small wound that was bleeding every time I cleared my ears. I have never had problems with my hearing. The doctor said he had to clean the dead skin from the wound and did the suction. It was sooo loud that it hurt. I didn't have any problems right after rhe procedure. How did it start for you? I felt a very strong pain inside ears at the night after the procedure. And not only in the treated ear, but both. Then the pain became weaker. I thought everithing was ok. That it was a reaction of the ears. But after some time, probably 2 weeks after, I became so dizzy, I couldn't stand up and had nausea. This continued about a week and after that I felt fullness in my left ear (not the treated one) and the louder sounds were painful to hear. Now, after a month, I have pain in both ears, fullness and pressure, every loud sound hurts, the both ears are constantly popping (that makes me crazy) and I can't hear clearly when someone speaks quietly. Slight Tinnitus appeared in the right ear (I think) and can not explain it, since the other ear was microsuct. I have read that this will never go away and I am in tears. How can someone live with that?!? I didn't even need the damn procedure!
Have someone experienced the same symptoms? And will it get better with the time?

If a bird can give you nerve damage then what can't? How much of this was psychological in nature?
