Hello, I just signed up and I hope I can get some idea of what's happening to me cause I'm really scared of this.

I'm a 45 year old woman and I started to have tinnitus 10 days ago. I woke up to listening to this high buzzing sound.

My panic disorder immediately kicked in and sent me to ER. They looked into my ears and told me I had liquid in my ears and gave me Sudogest 12 Hour and sent me back home.

Ever since I've been dealing with the tinnitus. Sometimes it is bearable and some other times I just want to bang my head against the wall. My regular doctor won't see me no matter what until the middle of the month and trying to make an appointment with an ENT is a joke when you're new in the list.

I feel so alone, my husband is suffering too cause he sees how bad I get at night, can't sleep or won't cause when I wake up my tinnitus is very loud.

Dr. Google it's been even worse telling me that it'll never go away and if I don't take the Sudogest my ears are gonna feel so clogged up and is gonna be even worse.

It feels like I have an infection because I can feel the mucus running down my throat and my throat hurts so bad now. I don't care if it's never gonna go away, I just don't want it to be this loud, my god I'm so scared.

I will appreciate any info you guys can give me , have a nice week and god bless.

@Olga Hart,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
When you say you can feel the mucus going down your throat I think you might have the following-

Post nasal drip.
This can be caused by allergies and sinus problems making too much mucus that goes down the back of your throat and at night can clog up your Eustachian Tubes making your ears feel full and can cause tinnitus.
You might get a snotty taste in your mouth also...

love glynis

I agree, I'm on Mometasone. I woke up at 3 am this morning and the T. was quite loud. I do some ETD (Eustachian Tube Disorder) exercises, and it calmed down within 1/2 hour. I'm also on a regimen of B12, Zinc, Gingko, and Magnesium, along with Apple Cider Vinegar, all of which help.

If you do have an infection, you may need antibiotics. I suggest you go see a doctor to make sure you get the meds you need (if you need them).

Untreated infections can lead to really bad consequences.

Olga, you can't see your regular doctor until middle of month, and you say getting into see a ENT doctor os a joke? Where do you live? A single payer healthcare country? When I got sudden hearing loss with tinnitus, I saw a ENT doctor that afternoon. I saw my regular doctor a few days later on the same day I called them. That afternoon I had a MRI done. Anything to do with sudden unexplained tinnitus or hearing loss should be considered a medical emergency.

Go back to Emergency and tell them you're in serious distress and it's an emergency and you need to see an ENT immediately. If Emergency wants they can get you to seeing anyone on an emergency order within 48 - 72 hours. Better still, see if there's a Neurotologist (that's an ENT who specializes in ears/hearing) they can get you in with.

Did the tinnitus start before or after the drug? If it started with it I'd stop it immediately. It could very well be that. Ototoxicity in the majority of drugs is reversible. Are you using a nasal spray or rinse - stay away from decongestants and just use a nasal rinse/Neti Pot. It does sound like you may have an infection that warrants antibiotics. In which case I'd suggest going with Doxycycline Hyclate over something like Amoxicillin w/ clavulanic acid - which is what a generalist would likely prescribe.

Lastly are you on anti-depressants? If you're on an SSRI - they make tinnitus worse - you definitely want to get off of it and on to a tricyclic AD - Nortriptyline being the drug of choice. And grab a script for 1mg Lorazepam while you're at it. It won't quiet the tinnitus but it'll relax you and that eases the symptoms - the cortisol reaction from stress makes tinnitus worse, so it becomes a negative feedback loop.
