Tinnitus Since
06/2015
Since yesterday I have got extreme worse Tinnitus (already existing 3 years) in a couple of hours. It began with pain in my right ear and then it blocked completely my hearing in a couple of seconds, I thought this can be sudden deafness? My left ear isn't affected now. Because the pain in the begin I think it's only an infection, can someone help me out? Could you get sudden deafness from an ear infection or am I searching in the wrong way? 3 years back this same story started my Tinnitus hell so I know a little bit about how it can progress.

Went immediately to the doctor and she said it's an ear infection (otitis media and externa). This is the third time in three years I'm getting ear infections.

I asked the doctor what to do and she said she will prescribe me amoxicillin to clear up the infection. It was not enough for me because Tinnitus is extremely worse now in my affected right ear (I have tinnitus in both ears).

I asked for prednisone and I got it but still don't know if it's gonna work for Tinnitus and if she gave me the right dose.

Now 1 day later (after using 3x prednisone 20mg and 3x amoxicillin 500mg spread over the day) my ear blockage is almost (75%) completely gone but Tinnitus is still persisting in a very high frequency and volume. I'm very scared for permanently increased Tinnitus.

It's now 24 hours after new Tinnitus in right ear. I was on 20mg prednisone after the onset within 4 hours. What's important to do now? Should I get higher doses prednisone with infusion or is 60mg one time or 20mg three times a day also good? Could I get the benefits of prednisone with only tablets or is infusion better? I want to use de advantages prednisone gives for a new Tinnitus.

Very scared my Tinnitus will stay this high and I hope some members can give me some good tips about the use of prednisone.

@Alper,
An ear infection will take time to go and tinnitus will spike but trying to remain calm and being kind to yourself and relaxing music will help.
It will settle and steroids just calm down inflamation.
The antibiotics should kick in about 48 hours.
love glynis

Thanks again Glynis, I'm in for theee years on this forum and do a lot of reading. You gave me also support back in 2015! I really appreciate all your work on this forum!

Back in 2015 with the start of my T and H, also due to inflammation of the ears the doctors didn't prescribed me corticosteroids (prednisone) in the Netherlands. I struggled almost five or six weeks with the blocking ear and because of that; hearingloss on high frequencies (14khz 15khz) and Tinnitus / Hyperacusis. I am hearing the same noise for three years now. It began on left and transformed after 1,5 years in right ear. Now I have more than 4 different T sounds.

Past three years now but no recovery. Still fighting everyday to do it good at my job and private live. It's generally bad than better. Sometimes (1x week) I can handle it very well but for only one day! The next day I have always increased T and this for 6 days to make my life a hell. Tried many therapies such as cognitive, medicines including alternative treatments but never got any better.

Only in the first year of onset I had more good days than bad. When I had a good sleep for 9-10 hours my Tinnitus wasn't noticable the next day.

3 years is still early to adapt to this terrible T and H??? I can't believe it! It's like a nightmare! When can we get our lives back again? This terrible condition is really cutting 99% of my live pleasure.
