Hi everyone,

My Tinnitus randomly started in August 2016 one day while I was getting ready for work. It's a constant loud ringing and hasn't stopped since that day. When I'm in bed trying to sleep it's all I can hear. My vision started to get blurry as well so I got my eyes tested and they said my vision was perfect. In January I started to get dizzy every time I did weights at the gym. Recently, I've started having spasms in my ears.

I feel like everything is related but feel as though it's falling on deaf ears with the doctors. I have a specialist appointment next week but am starting to really doubt that I can keep on going like this.

I think back to before this all started and it makes me so upset that the ringing may never stop. I don't know if I could handle a lifetime of this. I'm 26 and can't imagine having this forever. I feel like there's no way out.

No one I know understands how I'm feeling and think I'm being dramatic about it.

Thanks for listening.
Madi

Keep your head up! I know it's really hard to not focus on it but try to focus your energy on something else...best of luck to you. I hope it suppresses....

@Natalier...what meds were u on when u got your T?
Zoloft and a med I used as a sedative to sleep, and I used to be on klonopin but got off of it with no problems. But its unrelated to tinnitus, I was already taking the first two for about 4 years. The Zoloft, on and off. I'm still not sure what caused my tinnitus that I can say was definite.

Interesting was on Citalopram, a similar Ssri, before t for 6 years...my t was due to a loud noise but was interested to read someone with a similar medical history.
Like you have had lots of therapy and am very self aware...unfortunately my T can get quite loud which is quite irritating and struggle with concentrating as a result. The anxiety has subsided by adopting the techniques I'd learnt through therapy and cbt. I do believe Cbt is great for milder tinnitus where people are prone to over monitoring or in the beginning when anxiety strikes...of course it is beneficial for chronic or loud t.

Hi @Madi1990,

Hopefully the ENT will be able to help you. Make sure you also get a comprehensive hearing exam to know where your hearing stands.

I know everyone deals with tinnitus differently, but my suggestion for you would be to stop fighting it because it is a losing battle; you will simply drive yourself to the edge of a nervous breakdown. Instead, just let it win. Once this happens, your brain will begin to gradually accept the noise and your nervous system will not go into defense mode. The clinical term for this is called "habituation".

Going to the gym is great as well, but you should stay clear of listening to music through headphones/ear buds. Personally, I do not have time for the gym, but what I do is go for a 30 minute walk and it really helps me to relax mentally and physically. Best of luck to you!

Your emotions/stress plays a lot into this. Tinnitus is horrible, we all hate it here.....the key is to remain calm, relaxed and not emotional about it. Yes, it's not easy, but stress/anger just makes the tinnitus worst and no one wants that.

I have full blown tinnitus and its beyond garbage in both ears and i never went dizzy in the gym from it. I do also have sinus issues/allergies and i have had bouts of being dizzy from that before...

Take it easy, really do this. 26 is young and life is still a beauty, tinnitus makes things a little more challenging..but life is still a joy and should be enjoyed :)

I also have T with an unknown cause and dizziness. Make sure to see the ent to rule out physical issues. I have a weak balance nerve on one side. My balance issues were ignored by regular Drs for a long time. The ent took it seriously. Also it is hard for others to understand and many times people think we are being too sensitive. For me just knowing that my balance issue was for real and probably causes a lot of my fatigue helps.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I just saw the ENT and there's nothing he can do. I'm feeling so hopeless and just don't see it ever getting better. I am trying to hard to be positive but I just see no other way out of this.

Follow the diagnostic flowchart. Don't give up. Doctors don't have any skin in the game when it comes to your health: you have to drive and push them.
Good luck!

ENT usually just check our hearing and they can't do a thing for our tinnitus. My ENT even said that the only way he can stop my ringing is to shoot me. Gosh!!! Perhaps ask you family MD to have MRI on the head to see if there is anything hiding medically that caused your dizziness and other symptoms. If you are cleared, then the best thing is to remain positive and to learn how others can cope or win over T. I was like you in my darkest days initially, thinking how on earth I could live with my ultra high pitch T plus severe hyperacusis, plus relentless anxiety and panic attacks due to my prior condition of PTSD plus anxiety/panic disorder. I was in a mess and had to depend on meds just to survive each long, dark day. Every thought about the future was dark and hopeless and dark thoughts constantly crossed my tired and stressed out mind. I thought the end was near or I would never get better and have to suffer for life. How wrong! Never say never. Today I live a normal, productive and absolutely enjoyable life. I wrote my success story like others did and sharing some helpful strategies. For brevity, if you like to find out the strategies, here is the link. Try also read as many other success stories as you can to give you hope and to learn some helpful strategies and apply them. Take good care. Don't panic and despair. Good life can be and will be back. Believe it. God bless.

@Madi1990, have you been to a regular doctor? Did they do bloodwork? Check vitamin B12, D3, Thyroid. What about your hormones? Were you exposed to loud noise. Has any doctor gave you any explanation for the ringing in your ears? Allergies, sinus, etc. Like billie said get more tests. That's odd at 26 you got ringing for no reason.

@Madi1990, and do you have your wisdom teeth. Something that may be pressing on a nerve. That's what my dentist said to me yesterday. Not a wisdom tooth since mine are gone on my left side where the hissing is but other things they mentioned. I too have another appointment with another ent. next week and my dentist said if they don't think it's the ears/etd, he'll do more tests.

@Madi1990

Since your cause of T is unknown, go to a neuro specialist. She or him will order 3D CT series for dental, teeth, mouth, jaw, TMJs, sinuses, airway, nose, ears, neck and spine. One scan will focus on your ears. The second scan will focus on everything else mentioned. The radiation exposure is nothing more than spending a sunny day at the beach.

You will sit in a chair. Total time for both scans is just over two minutes. The scans are almost completely silent. Three times less than someone talking to you with a low voice. Do wear plugs.

Some scans will be reviewed before you leave. You will be sent pictures of all scans. Plus observations notes on everything. You will also receive a section on other findings. A section on impressions. A section on doctors notes, but all sections have detailed notes from a group of specialized doctors and radiologists.

These reports and scans will help any other specialist that you may need to see for treatment.

Take care

@GregSacramento, thanks for telling her that. That's basically what my dentist said, more tests like that, just couldn't remember in detail to tell billie.

I feel your pain. My tinnitus is like hissing, now in both ears. It is worst when waking up from sleep. I didn't sleep well last night due to tinnitus, so I laid on the couch tonight at 9 p.m. and konked out for about an hour. When I awoke it was unbearably loud hissing coming from the top of my head. I have a sound machine and it helps, but it is at its worst when waking up. I guess I should get a pillow with the sound inside, though I am not handy with programming it and don't know how to do that. I wish so much I didn't have this. I don't know how I got it, was not exposed to noise. Maybe it's circulation? I have kind of low blood pressure -- not high. I don't know. It is just discouraging to see a doctor and have them tell you there is nothing they can do. There must be something. I will keep on trying, reading, and not giving up. I can't give up. It's too discouraging. I feel for the girl that is 26 years old. I really hope she gets better fast.

Thank you everybody. I was reading up about TMJ and Tinnitus and am trying some of these exercises as the dentist said it looks as though I have been clenching my jaw which I think I do in my sleep. I was in a dark place when I had seen the specialist but am feeling more positive now. I'm going to try my best to listen to the nature noises when I'm going to sleep as this is when it is most frustrating. Also, the specialist told me about this calm app so I will try that. I will keep everyone posted with my progress, but your support means the world to me. Thank you

Hey, not to scare but do you live somewhat around or been whrere are cases of Lyme ?

Me and @Mario martz have kinda same thing from our lists and i have tested pos by Igenex lab ( the only reliable test)

@Tata, during the day my t is a very mild hissing in left ear. But at night the hissing gets louder and like you said it sounds like in middle/top of my head. It's still there in morning but when I lift my head from pillow it starts to get lower and after two cups of green tea it's almost gone. Last Sunday after a loud birthday party my t was so loud that night and my leg ached for some reason, my husband gave me a 10 mg muscle relaxer he had. I took a fourth of it. Knocked me out and next morning woke up with NO tinnitus and way later in the day the mild hiss came back. So I have three more pieces of this pill left. I put them by my bed every night this past week and said if it gets bad I'm going to take one. And I've fallen asleep every night without one. If I know they are there a little bit of my anxiety goes away and I can fall asleep. Weird! But can't explain why muscle relaxer took my t away. You said you think it's your neck that's causing your t. Maybe you need something to relax it. I was so relaxed!!
