I have recently begun to suffer from pulsatile tinnitus-I tell myself it is only intermittent but to be honest I think its just that I only hear it when things are quiet-particularly difficult times are at night of course.

I am awaiting an ENT appointment and am very anxious indeed because I have researched on line and know that there is potentially a serious cause. I am absolutely dreading things like MRI's etc-(perhaps because I am a nurse I just know too much) I keep trying to diagnose myself-work out a pattern-tell myself its stopped-etc etc-but I cant work out whats going on really.

I have even postponed some surgery I need because I don¨t want to risk a general anaesthetic if I have a vascular problem. Then I torment myself thinking I am being ridiculously risk averse.

Help!!-(I am a reasonably fit and active 59 year old woman)

Val, most of us with pulsitile T don't have serious conditions. In fact,a majority of us don't even know for sure why we have it, or have at best, guesses.

If you look at the stats a surprisingly high number of people have T, and I discovered two of my brother in laws have it once I started talking about it. The vast majority wth T adapt and lead regular lives. Chances are that your main concern will be keeping your psychology intact, and not other health issues. Do the tests but more than likely you'll be like most people on this board wondering why they'd have, how to improve it, and how to deal with it.

Super new with T and about to loose my mind! Wonder if I should get help from
a neurologist, since my Ent just told me to learn to live with it!!!! and see you in 1 year!!!!

thank you DirM for your reply-it does really help to hear what I know is the truth -that it is unlikely I have a life threatening condition-My appointment is in a few weeks and I am working on keeping calm and getting on with life-
