Cause of Tinnitus
Anti depressants
Hi everyone, I'm glad I finally decided to post. I've had tinnitus for over two years now in one ear, have also lost about 30% hearing in that ear.

I have also developed Meniere's disease over last year or so. I have seen a couple of ENT's which I found completely useless. I have suffered depression for most of my adult life (36 now), but have only been taking meds for last three years or so. I decided to stop taking anti depressants a couple of months ago to see if that was the cause of tinnitus. My tinnitus all but went away but my mood went down hill quite fast. I have since started taking celexa and my tinnitus has returned. I am at my wits end with depression, tinnitus and Meniere's disease.

Has anyone discovered an anti depressant that doesn't worsen tinnitus? I wasn't reading about remeron recently and may switch to that. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. If prescribed drugs can trigger tinnitus, have you tried the natural alternatives? Here is a site talking about some of these: https://www.healthline.com/health/depression/herbs-supplements#overview1

I have use Prozac and Amitriptyline before when my T was new and I didn't notice any bad increase of my T. Each person can react differently to drugs though.

@NorthernLights81,
Nortryptaline is a good AD and easy tolerated and also its cousin Amitrypaline.
You need one that helps depression,anxiety,sleep and tinnitus.
I have Menieres and had it 12-14years
Medications to help are
Bucastem
Proclorperazine
Betahistine
Cinnazine 15mg(for Menieres and can lower tinnitus also)
Love glynis
