Greetings everyone,

After largely habituating to my high pitched (12 kHz) hissing tone over the past 9 months, earlier this week I had 2 episodes of fleeting tinnitus but this time at a new lower tone. It now almost sounds like that tone, or at least another low tone has moved in to my left ear.

I know there is nothing to really be done but does anyone have any thoughts? Is it worth it to try steroids or just keep riding the bull?

Thanks!

You need to do an audiogram above 8khz
Speech in noise test

While I think there's nothing worse than high pitched T, a lot of people will say the opposite.
I've been having low pitch bass tone and it's unbearable. I also have high pitch static noise and ringing. This bothers me even more, so what you say is inaccurate.

The exact same thing happened to me. I have had the hissing tone for a month and a new low tone just began. At first it was fleeting. But then came back and has been sticking around the last 20 min.

@Bambam0

The same exact thing just happened to me. I have had hissing tinnitus for a month. Then tonight a new lower tone began. At first it was fleeting. Then it came back and has stuck around now the last 30 min. Did your new lower tone ever leave??

Do you still have this tone? I just developed one in my left ear that sounds like a refrigerator hum, but seems to have a bassiness to it that seems maybe pulsatile. It is driving me crazy right now because I've had a pain hyperacusis setback and I'm having to wear hearing protection most of the day.

I do not. So far every time I get a new tone it abates. Sometimes it takes a few weeks/month, sometimes a few hours. I use sound therapy (Tinnitus Play Sound Mixer with all sorts of noises) when I do get a new tone to try and "distract" it away. Last night one woke me up! That's only happened a few times but it seemed to just be a SBUTT.

I've been going through a spike the past week too.

Sorry you're going through it : /

Sorry to hear about the spike. Glad to hear your tone went away though. I've had some disappear or at least go dormant and only pop up occasionally in the past. So hopefully that's the case with this one. Sooner than later lol.
