Hi everyone!

I discovered this forum by looking up stuff about tinnitus on the internet. It looks like a great place to exchange and share about it.

I am a 36 years old woman from Montreal, Canada. I mostly speak french so sorry if my english is not always perfect :dunno:

I have had tinnitus since 2015 as far as I can remember. I have been taken antidepressant for the last 15 years (on and off) and before, the tinnitus would appear when I would start taking the medication and it would go away once I am off it. But since 2015, it didn't work that way. I remember waiking up in the morning one day and that was it. It was back. And it never left me since.

Like I hear often, I have to "deal with it". I saw bunch of doctors to be sure everything was OK with me but I usually get the same answer "we don't really know why you have this. Just make sure to come see us every now and then to make sure it doesn't get worse".

It affects my life in many different ways, just like anyone of you, I am sure. Maybe you will know how by reading my future posts!

I wish you all a good day.

Last visit to and ENT I was told, "Welcome to the once a year club!"

@threefirefour is right, Cat posting is pretty popular around here, @Jazzer is pretty good at it.

Well it's even better if there are some cat lovers here!

@Contrast your cat is just too cute! What's his (her) name? How old?

I have two. Bundy (himalayan blue point) male 11 year-old and Lucky (aka Mini, domestic black & white) female 8 year-old.

@threefirefour Do you have any cats? Or pets? And I know cats are the best!

Sorry to hear that , why didn't you stop the medication if it was intermittent T ? What make u still stay on it ? Also what drugs you were on? Tell you the truth, I had a massive headache 2 days ago and was a afraid to drink any tables. Went away next day. Before T I would drink Aspirin . So many ppl here got T from medication. The only thing I drink now it Vitamins I hear about on this forum. You are correct it do affect your life regardless of what volume it is , not to knock anyone down . No one deserves to live like this. Copeing is good, only thing we got,but a cure will be living again . The taught of no help make things worse . I understand the frustration of guys here , we are all suffering, if not we won't be here on TT. I am the only one I know around me with this , everyone think it nothing. Seem the entire world feel this way, who don't have it .This why ATA / BTA would never be help , from what I learn here ppl running both organizations don't have T . They will never want a cure , even a relief, because they will shutdown. This my gut feelings . Feeling frustrated myself today . Sorry

Agree completely. Why does every medicine have to kill our ears? There should at least be better warnings

@Rajin I wish I could stop the meds but it is best for me if I stay on it. I have try to stop in the past and even tried alternatives but didn't work. I feel better when I take the meds (Effexor XR 75 mg).

I have severe anxiety, panick attacks and social anxiety disorder. This helps me live a more normal life and just be happier this way. My doctor told me Effexor couldn't give me tinnitus but I don't believe her. I have read about it and I know other people got T because of antidepressant. Never had this before and only when I started taking this.

No worries about your post. We have all ups and downs. I hope you will feel better soon!

Hi @CrazyCatLady. Sorry to hear about your tinnitus. :huganimation:Do I understand correctly that your tinnitus stayed even after the Effexor was completely out of your system?

I am also diagnosed with panic disorder (in addition to OCD), so I know how awful those attacks can be. However, I have had good experience with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) without medication. I threw away the antidepressants they gave me. ;)
